On tap at the Frank Jones Pub and Restaurant in Barrington, New Hampshire. Barrington is where the great New Hampshire brewer and statesman Frank Jones was born and the employees at the restaurant say this is the only place in the state where it is available. They said is is based on the original 19th century recipe.
Onto the review. It pours from the tap a dark, mainly clear amber color with a small to medium head that slowly diminishes. The aroma is of sweet dark malts, molasses, and raisins with a hop nip tickling my nose. The body is medium and smooth. The taste is sweet up front with an above moderate bitterness tying it together at the end. It finishes semi-dry. If this is how the original tasted I can see why it was so popular in its day. A refreshing brew that pairs well with traditional pub foods.
Serving type: on-tap
