12 ounce bottle into pint glass, best before 2/12/2016. Pours slightly hazy deep golden yellow color with a 1-2 finger fairly dense white head with good retention, that reduces to a small cap that linger. Light spotty soapy lacing clings on the glass, with a good amount of streaming carbonation retaining the head. Aromas of big watermelon, strawberry, wheat, cracker, light honey, and light herbal hops. Okay aromas with big watermelon and light malt/hop notes; with decent strength. Taste of watermelon, strawberry, wheat, cracker, light honey, herbal, grass, and light pepper. Light herbal/spicy bitterness on the finish; with lingering notes of watermelon, strawberry, wheat, cracker, light honey, and herbal/grassy earthiness on the finish for a short bit. Good balance and solid robustness of watermelon, pale malt, and light earthy hop flavors; with good malt/bitterness balance and zero cloying flavors after the finish. Moderate dryness after the finish. Medium-high carbonation and light bodied; with a very smooth, crisp, and clean finish that is nice. Alcohol is very well hidden with zero warming present after the finish as expected of 4.4%. Overall this was a very solid fruit beer. All around good balance and solid robustness of watermelon, pale malt, and light earthy hop flavors; and very smooth and crisp to drink. A pleasantly enjoyable offering.

This stuff is bad. Maybe I got a bad bottle but this had very taste going down...the taste I did have is a slight artificial chemical aftertaste for a bit after drinking.

Frankly, this beer was an impulse buy from the singles selection at my grocery store which I picked up to fill a six pack. Also frankly, I drank it out of the bottle so I have no idea of the color or appearance in the glass. The taste, however, I can vouch for, as well as the mouth feel. It is very well carbonated, with a nice fizzy zing, and that is the best thing about it. The artificial watermelon flavor was quite off putting, as was the sweetness. (Full disclosure: I have no sweet tooth at all.) The sweetness and artificial flavor are lingering in my mouth a half hour after drinking the beer.

Niche beer. On the fruity side bordering on beer tasting vs cooler. Has some essences of beer but the melon stands out strongly. Has a Shotgun Betty after taste. Almost a baseball card gum note that lingers. Different for sure if you like fruit beer you will enjoy at least one round. If you like more of a hops taste with essence of fruit maybe to sweet for you.

A: Pours a very lightly hazy medium honey orange in color with moderate to heavy amounts of active visible carbonation and a hint of amber + medium yellow highlights. The beer has a half finger tall foamy white head that reduces to a large patch of thin film covering the entire surface of the beer and a thin ring at the edges of the glass. Light amounts of lacing are observed.

S: Moderate aromas of artificial watermelon, not dissimilar to Jolly Rancher candies. Underneath there is a very light aroma of cereal grain malts.

T: Upfront there is a light flavor of cereal grain malts with a light amount of grainy sweetness. That is followed by moderate flavors of watermelon juice without too much sweetness and just a hint of Jolly Rancher artificial watermelon flavor. Minimal amounts of bitterness in the finish.

M: Light bodied with moderate to heavy amounts of carbonation.

O: Overall a decent summer beer but not one that I could have very frequently - there are other, more enjoyable to me watermelon beers available and they do not have that slightly artificial flavor/aroma.

Smells like one of those strawberry shortcake dolls my sister had in the 80s. The taste starts off with fake fruit that resembles red crushed up flintstone vitamins. The mid-palate is just weird. The finish does remind me that I'm drinking beer, but it seems like a miller lite or something. Not good.

Artificial watermelon "beer". It tastes like someone melted watermelon Jolly Ranchers in warm tap water, and then added MORE sugar into the mix on top of that. It's sickly sweet, at least for someone who doesn't possess much of a sweet tooth. You might as well not even be drinking beer, because this tastes nothing like one. I can see it being great for people who don't like beer, or who enjoy sweet ciders. Complete pass from me. I had to cut these with a lot of ice in order to get through the rest of the pack, because the flavor was too off putting for me.

The watermelon works with the wheat beer. I downgraded the beer due to a metallic taste I get. I also know I have a very low threshold for this flavor and get it in a lot of beers.

Best enjoyed before: 10/2015.

Pours a hazy golden-orange with a foamy bone head that settles to wisps of film on top of the beer. Tiny dots of lace drip into the remaining beer on the drink down. Smell is of sweet grain, watermelon hard candy, and artificially flavored watermelon juice aromas. Taste is much the same with grain and watermelon hard candy flavors on the finish. There is a very mild amount of earth bitterness on the palate with each sip. This beer has a good level of carbonation with a crisp mouthfeel. Overall, this is an average beer that is quite refreshing and easy to drink, but the watermelon aspects come through as candy like all around.

Poured from bottle into pint glass. Lots of bubbles equal a thin white head with no lacing. Strong nose of watermelon and malt that fell flat in the taste. Tastes more like a watermelon soda or wine cooler. Overall very drinkable on a warm day.

Draft into a pint glass. Pours a light orangish yellow. It's cloudy. Don't see bubbles like some other reviewers. Head was gone by the time I got it. No lacing. Smells extremely tropical and fruity. Cantaloupe and green melon (you know..that Crap on the salad bar that no one eats). None..Zero hops. Pure fruit. I'm worried before I sip. Tastes like a light lager full of melon. Sweet. Complete chick beer or something you would drink on a hot summer day. Not bad but not my cup of tea. This is something I would recommend to girls who want to "try" craft beer for the first time.

Pours a light yellow color, smallish head that fades quickly, no lacing on the glass, constant bubbles rise from the bottom to the top so there's ample carbonation.

Smell is mostly sweet malt with with a light fruit aroma, not picking up any hops on the nose.

Taste is light and crisp, sweet malt throughout with a light fruit aspect, obviously melon-like flavors, not overly artificial or sugary, carbonation is on the high side but this is very helpful to keep it crisp and refreshing without any lingering stickiness.

Bought a single, I was a bit leery of this beer so didn't want to invest in a sixer.

I pop the top and sniff the bottle, I was not impressed. Very strong melon scent, but it seemed somehow artificial. I had the opportunity to try from Melon flavored Ramune from Japan, and it smelled just like that.

Pours a clear gold, almost no head to speak of, no lacing left on the glass.

The taste is something different. Rather than the sugar explosion I was expecting, it's almost savory. There's a tartness to it that I quite enjoy. Aside from the melon, I'm getting butter and corn, and possibly some cherry.

It's thin, small dazzle of carbonation before it's gone, leaves a slight residue that sticks around for a little while, but doesn't take away from the drink much.

Another surprise from Shipyard, get a pass score from me.

12 oz bottle.
Tasty but artificial watermelon flavor with strong hints of cherries and strawberries. I would not be surprised if this was actually crafted with natural watermelon but had cherry and strawberry added to bring out the fruitiness. In any case, it is quite fruity, as well as lightly sweet with just a modicu of tartness.

I liked it !!. Color was a gold, no cloudiness. Smells like tart honeydew or watermelon. Taste is very nice with good carbonation. The flavor lingered in my mouth for quite some time. The balance between beer and melon was exceptionally nice. Overall, I think it should be drank very cold because as the beer heats up, the melon flavor becomes a little fake. Overall, a nice balanced beer and great flavor

To be fair, I'm not too into most fruit beers. But my husband, who likes anything sweet and fruity, couldn't resist picking up a bottle of this.

I wouldn't say that this beer was awful. But the flavor profile reminded me of Pez candies and not in a bad way either.

12 ounce bottle - $2.29 at Total Wine & More in Kennesaw, Georgia.

Appearance: Pours a clear, yellow body, a humble appearance, with a slim, very short-lived white head.

Smell: Smells like those watermelon Jolly Rancher candies first and foremost, with a thin cereal-hinted beer underneath.

Taste: Minimal pale malts, a bit of crunchy wheat accompanies the sweet, sugary watermelon flavor. Near nil hop character with just a teensy bit of balancing bitterness. Sweetish, watermelon-flavored finish with a small zip of suds and last minute twang of additive.

Mouthfeel: Medium-bodied. A little over medium carbonation.

Overall: Nice melons!

while i'm not able to completely distinguish all of the flavors in this, it has an overwhelming taste of artificial watermelon, sort of like lip smackers lip balm. it's still sitting in the back of my fridge and will be a last resort drink. I probably wouldn't buy it again

A- Off the pour it was a nice clear yellow/gold with about a 1 1/2-2 finger head that dissipated very quickly and left no lacing whatsoever. A lot of carbonation was visible as well.

S- Smelled of artificial watermelon(almost like sour patch candies) and a light wheat beer.

T- Not much watermelon at the beginning but about 1/4 of the way through the taste strengthened a bit. Still very artificial tasting.

M- A good amount of carbonation was present, but was very crisp.

O- Overall not too bad. I would probably pick up a 6 pack here and there, but not one I would keep on hand all the time.

From the 12 fl. oz. bottle with an expiration date of December 2013. Sampled on October 2, 2013 which is an unseasonable 80 degrees.

It has a slightly cloudy pale yellow pour with a quick bursting head that fizzles quickly.

Watermelon and grains lead the aroma on the nose with a touch of clean, crisp hops in the background.

Light and refreshing body.

I kind of like the watermelon forward sweet taste considering I am not a huge fans of fruit beers. But it comes across as quite refreshing on a hot day and easy to chug. Mild dry hop finish.

Poured from a 12oz bottle into a US tumbler pint glass.

A: The beer is a light gold color with a short white head that fades quickly and leaves a thin lace on the glass.

S: The aroma contains sweet melons, light caramelized malts and a faint touch of hops.

T: There starts out very sweet with a strong watermelon flavor. Then some breadiness comes in from a thin malt character. The hops presence is very mild but brings some balance. The after-taste is slightly sweet.

M: Crisp and a little smooth, light-to-medium body, medium carbonation, finish is slightly sticky.

O: Flavorful, goes down ok, not too filling, mild kick, good representation of style, for the type of beer it’s not too bad but it’s not something I would want to drink unless my options were very limited.

Poured from a brown 12 oz. bottle. Has a golden color with a 1 inch head. Smell is strong of watermelon. Taste is a little off. Some melons, some odd flavors, not terrible but just so-so. Feels light in the mouth and overall an attempt at something unique, but this is a mediocre beer.

Poured from a 12 oz bottle into a nonic.

A: Golden hue. Pours a 1 finger, foamy, white head. Plenty of rising effervescence continues throughout. Settles pretty quickly. Pretty nice beer ring lacing.

S: A little grain, but mostly watermelon Jolly Rancher.

T: Light grain, and a slight bitter fruity note.

M: Light body. Crisp and refreshing character.

D: Session.

Atmosphere is pretty good. Nice, foamy, white head and some decent beer ring lacing. A little grainy with watermelon candy. Light bready flavor with a slightly bitter fruit. Overall, this is a decent quaff.

Pours pale golden orange with a slightly hazed body finely carbonated bubbles form in a large white head. Speckled sporadic lacing is left behind. Aroma has candy like notes of watermelon think Jolly Rancher, soft notes bready grains. Flavor is interesting rides the palate with sweet candy tones of watermelon, finishes with dry yeast notes and ample breadiness comes from the base ale weighing at 4.4% abv. Something about each sip becomes cloying, the sweet notes really hang on and it just becomes too much for me with each sip. There's a much cleaner yeast profile here than found in most Shipyard Ales. Mouthfeel is light to medium bodied fine bubbled carbonation, like I said the natural flavoring weighs too cloying on my palate and leaves me not wanting to finish this particular offering. Definitely not an overall good sign when you don't want to finish the beer, this will be popular with the masses. The only other watermelon beer I've had has been from Roy Pitz their Watermelon Lager is much more drinkable than this one.

This beer us a very clear and bright dark yellow that almost sneaks into amber territeory, with lots of spritzy bubbles rising well after the head has fallen. Speaking of, it's pure white and fizzy, rising to between a half and full finger and falling back down quickly. It looks more like a soda than a beer, but at least some big bubbles on the sides and wispy stuff in the middle remain, though they only have enough substance to leave tiny spots here and there.
Watermelon does come out in the nose, and pretty strongly. It has a candy-like sweetness at first, but that backs down for more tartness to come out. Some malts are also noticeable.
It is what it is, a refreshing, light, summer beer with fruit. Interestingly, it's much more identifiable as beer in the taste. Crackery malts form a foundation, though it's a little musty and grainy, and there's a floral note too. It's actually somewhat bitter, even. Some weird metallic note slides into the finish, but not too much, though an aspirin-like note follows it.
There's obviously focused on lightness and crispness, and that it has. It's a little weak and shallow, but it quenches the thirst.
Shipyard confuses me with their massive shifts in quality from one beer to another.
