This store is about 1.5 miles from my house. Craft brew scene is somewhat inconsistent. Standards include Sam Smith Oatmeal, Nut Brown and Taddy Porter, as well as 2 or 3 varieties of Long Trail, Ithaca, a couple Rogues on occasion, Newport storm Cyclone (current), hurricane amber and blueberry, as well as a few Smuttynose and Magic Hat. They also carry a decent selection of Saranac and are currently stocking Heavy Seas (4 or 5) and a few varieties of Sierra Nevada and Blue Point. Belgian selection is non-existent (Affligem Triple, Leffe Blone and Hoegaarden White), and don't seem to move.

The problem, as mentioned earlier is their consistency. Went in today and they had a nice selection of seasonals (Saranac 12 beers of Xmas, Rogue Santa's Reserve, Anchor Christmas and Sierra Celebrator) and I actually had a hard time choosing. However, no DFH to be found (they had an abundance in the summer and fall), Sea Dog is gone. You just never know what to expect. If you are looking for standards (e.g. Sam, Harpoon, Guiness, Stella, etc.), Crestwood is a fine liquor store; however, if you are looking for more of a craft beer scene, you might want to try elsewhere. Have to agree with the earlier review in that it is a solid destination if you aren't doing one of the more specialized store runs.

Update - 3/5/2008
Visited today to pick up a sixer. They've really stepped it up and expanded their belgians, as well as brought in 4 or 5 types of Rogue bombers, Flying Dog & Heavy Seas. Definitely worth a looksee if you are in the area. Just wish they had a mix-a-six.

Update - 5/23/2009
They are really expanding their selection I have to say and it's been the only place I've consistently been able to find SN Torpedo. One of the concerns I have though is about freshness of some of the shelf stock. I picked up a couple Germans a few weeks back that I think were past their prime. That being said, I am impressed that they are really trying to step up their game.

Update - 1/29/2010
Selection continues to get better with increased focus on major American Craft brewers - i.e. Southern Tier, Rogue, Stone, Dogfish Head, with some representation from regional and smaller breweries (i.e. Abita, Smuttynose, etc.). Belgian selection has continued to expand slightly, with much of the focus seeming to be on Global Beer beers. Definitely worth a look and customer service has improved significantly.

Was passing through the area and decided to stop by Crestwood Liquors. I wasn't really looking for anything in particular, just something to bring back and sip on. Store was very clean and well organized with the beer section to the back right consisting of a wall cooler and one aisle of bottles. Selection wasn't bad and snagged a 4 pack of Victory Dirt Wolf, which to my surprise was still well within the drink by date. In fact, all of the IPAs I looked at in the store were fresh. Major points for that. They had a few good imports, but not a whole lot of excellent stuff. Not a bad place to stop if your in Coventry and need something to sip on for the night.

I WENT TO CRESTWOOD THIS WEEK AFTER READING THE REVIEWS .THEY AGAIN HAVE ADDED SOME NEW IMPRESSIVE BEERS LIKE INNUS AND GUNN 750'S AND 11.5OZ ,STONE VERTICAL EPIC 8/8/08,TRAPPISTES ROCHEFORT 8,ROGUE 750 IMPERIAL RED ALE AND IMPERIAL STOUT,DRAGON STOUT FROM JAMAICA, FORT COLLINS CHOCOLATE STOUT , HOOKER IPA AND IRISH RED .REAL NICE SELECTION FOR THIS PART OF THE STATE . THE MANAGER STATED THAT I COULD MIX 6 ON ANY OF THE LOOSE 12,16,22 OR 24OZ BEERS THAT ARE LOOSE ALREADY AND GET 10% OFF SO THAT WAS COOL . THIS WAS WORTH THE TRIP SO IF YOU ARE IN THE KENT COUNTY AREA CLOSE TO COVENTRY ITS NOT FAR FROM EXIT 7 OFF 95 ... ...Excellent selection as always they now have just about every top shelf craft beer available in RI. And if they don't they will get it for you within the week. This is my regular go to spot and continues to improve.

This has been about the 5th time I've been going to this liquor store and I will say the young lady on the register wasn't very nice to me at all and she didn't ask how I'm doing. I find that very rude and I don't like her attitude at all. Also, I think they are too expensive especially for Sam Adam's almost $16.00 for a 12 pack that is totally ridiculous. They just lost a customer I don't feel that I belong there so I'm never going back again, I should of went to Haxtons because they are inexpensive and have a way better selection of beers etc. Also I went there one time and the employees there are not as rude either.

There are 3 liquor stores in this area and as far as personality goes, Crestwood is the worst out of all of them. Two employees younger girls, act as if youre bothering them when youre purchasing. Today was my last time there. The girl spent the whole transaction texting and didnt so much as speak, smile, or even look at me. Just one of those deals that make you go away feeling bad. Uugh!
Selection is fine. Better than one store but not as good as the other. Ranks second in pricing also.
Overall dissatisfied!

It is hard to find a liquor store which comprises the appearance, friendliness with the size and "listening quotient" offered by Crestwood.

Michael and his staff are always interested in what I have to say when I arrive and are open to new ideas, particularly in the craft beer section. I am happy to see the diversity here and their willingness to try things for their customers who generally know what they want especially when it comes to the imported beers. They are so carrying the fun and good craft beers like Pork Slap! I saw it reviewed in Maxim magazine, I asked for them to carry it and now they do.

I am looking forward to my next visit when in Coventry.

I went in looking for the Saranac Beers of Summer pack. This was a 2 months ago I think. First time in for a place that is around the corner from where I am every Sunday night.
Decided to check it out since I have drove by but never been inside. They didnt have it, so I had to go to another place that did.
Decent beer selection to me. All of the liquor stores buy from the same distributor so you tend to see the same things.
The few craft stores that i go to all have the Stone, Dogfish, and the Samual Smith, etc etc.

I was asked if I neded help and that was a plus to me, becuase you do you want good service in a god liquor store.

In the area that it I think overall it does have a more then decent selection. So it would be a good choice if you live near by.

I would have to say that this is my favorite local liquor store. The selection is good and the employees are great. They are willing to get anything you ask for. I have a kegerator and they are very easy to work with when ordering keg beer. "Call before 5 on Tuesday and it will be in Wednesday morning." I have dealt with the other area stores and Crestwood is by far the most customer friendly store. I ordered a seasonal keg from Haxtons, went to pick it up on the day it should have been there only to find out they did not order it and it was now no longer being offered. It was now out of season. No apologies, explanation, NOTHING! That made for a great time at the party we had without the seasonal we had on the invitations. Thank you for helping me find a customer friendly store I can bring my business to.

They now carry almost everything that I personally enjoy, but because I'm always looking for something new I've become reasonably good friends with a couple of the managers, Mike and Matt and they seem to know what they're talking about. Beyond the selection that they have, what really impressed me was their willingness to specifically order a couple of beers for me. The quality of service was unbeatable!! They carry virtually the entire line of Rogue bombers and their belgians have really come a long way. Highly recommended!!

For a local liquor store, Crestwood is quite suitable. They carry a good variety of wine and spirits along with a fine selection of beer. They typically carry Dogfish Head, Victory, Flying Dog, Long Trail, Saranac, Magic Hat, Blue Point, Samual Smith, and, of course, Samual Adams products. Recently, they had a very nice Oktoberfest display including Spaten, Paulaner, and Pumpkin Ales in all shapes and sizes. If you're lucky, you can stumble upon a large Dubbel, Tripel, or a Rogue in the cooler. It definitely fills the void between runs to the "specialty beer" stores in RI.

March 2008 - Crestwood Liquors has really stepped up their selection in recent months. They now carry a full line of Stone bombers, many Rogue offerings, Ballast Point, Schneider Weisse and Aventinus, as well as a few Ayingers.
