Bottle: Poured a pitch-black color stout with a nice dark brown foamy head with good retention and some light lacing. Aroma of roasted malt and coffee notes with light subtle bourbon notes. Taste is also dominated mostly by dry roasted malt notes with dry coffee notes with some bitter notes. Bourbon was hard to distinguish and did not play a significant role. Body is thinner then I had expected with good carbonation and no apparent alcohol. Not bad but more shy then I was expecting.

341ml Bottle received in trade with iguenard - different from the vanilla coffee version this is also listed on this site

Appearance - Dark brown colour with an above average size frothy light brown head. I can't make out the amount of carbonation showing and there is some great lacing. The head lasted for over 5 minutes before it was gone.

Smell - Malts, chocolate, coffee

Taste & Mouth - There is an average amount of carbonation and I can taste malts, chocolate, and light coffee. There is also a lot of burnt/charred flavour and a bit of a booziness. The charred bitterness hangs around for a long time on the taste buds.

Overall - The scent has a lot of quality chocolate in it, but that gets lost in the taste due to all the charred flavour. It is also missing a bit of the sweetness I'm used to finding in RIS's. The bourbon is noticeable - even more so as the beer warms. A decent brew but needs refining.

As appears to be characteristic for Dunham, the barrel-aging is not overdone. The bourbon is present but is just one more flavour in the beer rather than a blanket covering the entire package. Oak, roast malt and some chocolate are present. The base beer is good, but not special. A slightly bitter cocoa flavour in the finish.

341ml bottle.

Opaque black with thick and healthy caramel head that dissipates very slowly and leaves strong lacing. Mild bourbon on the nose. Wood, caramel and slight coffee notes as well. The bourbon is pleasantly subdued in the taste, mild coffee and roasted grain also present. Surprisingly bitter. Body a little thinner than one would like. I really enjoyed this one.
