A - Dark reddish brown, small lacy head, but no visible carbonation.
S - Smells of dark chocolate, cocoa powder, dark red fruits and cranberries. Also, quite yeasty.
T - Lots of dark chocolate up front with the bitterness of espresso and dark cocoa. Sweet malts bring in tastes of cherries making the whole thing seem like a blackforest cake. A drying and lingering aftertaste is welcome. It warms quite nicely to allow more and more subtle flavours to emerge.
M - Very nice feel to it, not to thick or syrupy.
D - A little too heavy to have much of, a little to dark and bitter.

Sweet brown, enjoyed at Festival Bières et Saveurs 2008.Lots of caramel, crystal malt.Light brown with only 15 IBU and lacey. Mouthfeel about average, as was carbonation. A bit of malt in nose. Nothing too special, another brown. (Death by Laughing is translation)

I was just really let down by my last review...I'm hoping this makes up for it...

Nice enough looking beer. Not quite brown, more of a brown-red. Pours a decent off-white head. Cloudy but not opaque.

Uh-oh. I don't know that corn-on-the-cob is a good smell for a beer to have, but this one is loaded with it. Some sweet roasted corn and a bit of yeast. Mostly corn.

Damn. This could be my first drain pour. Tastes like rotten corn-on-the-cob. Actually, it tastes exactly like a scratch-and-sniff corn-on-the-cob sticker I remember from when I was five or six years old. Yuck. I can't taste anything else under the corn nastiness.

Medium bodied with medium carbonation. I only wish this average mouthfeel was supporting an average taste.

Doesn't look that bad or feel too bad but the taste is just horrible. I've tried this brewery's Recompense on the advise of a friend and was also very disappointed. Mort De Rire means "dying of laughter." Maybe that's what Brasseurs Et Freres are doing knowing that people are actually buying this stuff.

(My girlfriend thinks all beer tastes the same so I've passed it over to her. Otherwise this would have litterally been poured down the drain. I can't believe she doesn't know the difference between this and Peche Mortel...that doesn't make sense.)

This beer pours copper, with a thin light tan foam head, some lace on the glass. There are aromas of caramel, chocolate, roast and some fruits. The taste is of caramel, chocolate. Good taste overall, but not tasting enough for my taste. The body is thin, with a good carbonation. Good beer, but nothing that special about it though.

Bottle: Poured a deep brown color ale with s small off-white head with minimal retention. Aroma of caramel malt is quite strong. Taste is dominated by sweet caramel malt with some molasses. Carbonation is a bit low but body is above average for style and that is appreciated. Definitely not a style that I truly enjoy but well made nonetheless. I am guessing we will see more interesting beer from this brewery in the future.

Clear brown color beer which bent slightly on the red side. The head is nicely formed but disappear quickly. The aroma is burnt sugar with some earthy notes which is typical of this brewery. On the taste side, it is more burnt nuts!! awesome! I've read other reviews and some get chocolaty notes. I don't.

Medium bodied beer with notable carbonation in the mouth. The drinkability is good. Not an extraordinary beer but definitely higher than the average beer out there.

Pour a nice medium brown into the pint glass, nice white head that stays around nicely. Big aroma of candied cereal, caramelised and roasted barley. Hint of yeast esters reminding me of the one used by wild goose brewing (Ringwood Yeast). Big chewy malt flavor, bitter too, yum.

Exellent beer, highly recommended

Bought a 6-pack while in Montreal.

Had the last of the 6 bottles last night and I still am not quite sure what to make of this beer.

Poured into a pint glass, it had a nice dark coffee hue with hints of copper. The head had a frothy consistency and lacing was nice. Taste was nice - I was hoping for a bit more flavor - hints of caramel, chocolate and malt. A bit too much carbonation.

It wasn't bad, but I probably wouldn't buy it again if other choices were available.

From a 341 Bottle. Label displays a cartoonish vulture throwing away a banana peel. This is my first beer from that brewery, so i don't know what to expect. Served in a St-Ambroise pint glass.

-Pours a maple-syrup red-hued brown. Medium beige heads that fades away quickly, but some decent lacing remains.

-Volatile caramel aroma but with some nutty notes. I expect brown sugars in the taste also.

-Yep, taste of brown sugars sweetness dominating. Cocoa powder and ground coffee along. Caramel malts in the aftertaste that stays a good time on the palate. Aroma and sweetness is well balanced.

-Mouthfeel lacks texture and is a bit too carbonated. Nothing dramatic tough.

-Too bad i only had one bottle of this one, i couldn't get enough of that! Really a session brown ale.

Ranks up along with L'Écossaise from l'Alchimiste as a good brown colored session brew in this area, altrough this is a bit better.

Really more of a Belgian Brune.

A: Amber-brown/dark-caramel, off-white head, very little retetnion, initially some lace.

S: Spicy, tropical fruit, cider, brown sugar, caramel, hints of floral hops.

T: Spice, tropical fruity, winey, brown sugar, metallic, slight breadyness & dark fruit, modest bitterness, slight phenolic warmth, dry cidery finish.

M: Light to moderate body, really well-attenuated, carbonation higher than average, dry.

D: Quite drinkable.

Thanks Goldorak!

Picked up at Metro Johanette by Lexx

Pours a clear reddish brown, thin light tan head forms, settles to a thin ring, some lace spots, looks okay. Smell is veggies, caramel, a light chocolate roast, bit of fruit and some sugar. Taste is a light toast, bit of caramel, light chocolate, some roast, not a whole lot of flavour but pretty pleasant. Mouthfeel is light bodied with medium carbonation, very smooth, refreshing, pretty decent. Thanks Lexx!

Les deux bouteilles gouttés du même six pack était différentes.
A-belle couleur brun/caramel.

A - light copper, clear, frothy tan head.

S - sweet caramel, cola-like, mild earthy/nuttiness

T - caramel sweetness up front, gives way to a nutty biscuit that eventually finishes with chocolate notes.

M - med light body, medium carbonation. The overall effect is quite light and refreshing. Dry finish.

D - a well made brown ale, excellent for fans of the style, and quite sessionable.

Starts out sweet, and finishes dry with hints of chocolate. Light enough to drink several. Sounds like a perfect brown ale to me! Not dumbed down like some brown ales.

Thanks to Mattt for the bottle!

Picked this up at Metro Joannette while in Montreal for Mondial

Pours a light walnutty color with decent tan head and leaves spotty lace.
The predominant scents are coffee, caramel, cocoa powder and iron.
The taste is pleasant. Coffee overwhelms anything else, but there's also caramel and nuttyness present. It's light bodied with medium carbonation. Quite easy to drink, not bad on a summer day.
