this is old school, and everything i want in a black ipa. its big and frothy and robust, its malt bill seems huge to me, tons of roasted bitterness, even burnt earthiness, but also notes of chocolate and espresso, and i think the extra body sets it up nicely to go with all these hops. to me the hops have a northwestern complexion, fresh pine and spiciness, maybe some cascade and/or centennial in here, it has that kind of vibe to it, and i think the freshness of the hops with the dense earthy nature of the malts is a nice juxtaposition, achieved in a higher extreme here than in other beers in this style, as the hops and the grains are both very intense, but find a way to work together so well. coffee and oily spruce notes go together nicely, and the bitterness is high, but not quite a double jeopardy situation from the roast and the hops, but it sure lingers long in the finish and has a ton of depth. good carbonation is needed to keep it moving, and in the end i cant believe its as low in alcohol as it is! it feels a lot more heavy than it really is, which i love in a fall season context. great beer from a great brewery!

Not very hoppy for a black ipa but quite bitter. Roasted, earthy. It's flavorful but not very deep. Medium carbonation and light mouthfeel. Went well with roquefort

Black colour with a huge brown head That is there all the while. çGood crying lace. Aroma of coffee, chocolate, dark fruits, hops. Full body and strong carbonation. Taste of coffee, resines, chocolate and hops. Bitter finish. Good, but I miss some of the IPA characters.

Bought at BroueHaHa in Gatineau. Nice dark colour with great foam, and a present but under-control bitterness. A very solid black IPA.

As mentioned y the other reviewers there is lots of foamy brown head. It subsides slowly. The beer itself is an opaque black. It smells of toasted malt, coffee, caramel and citrus hops. It is one of the best dark ales I have ever had. Being less than 6% abv you can have a few of these without having to fall off your chair. So dark tasty sweet and dry with chocolate coffee fudge and citrus it's all there. Don't leave Montreal without it!.

Pitch black with a huge off-white head.

Smell fresh hops and dark chocolate mostly.

In the mouth there's lots of chocolate flavors, some roasted notes too with a crisp bitterness.

Really easy to drink, really smooth.

Dark brown color with medium brown head. Aroma is really nice, dark roasted malts, caramel and some earthy hops that integrate very well. Taste starts quite roasty up-front, also hoppy, nutty, good amount of bitterness. Finish is even more bitter and roasty. Aftertaste is bitter, even a bit ashy and dry. Body is quite light, making the beer easy to drink. Really nice one overall, tasty and very easy to drink.
