Possibly the best beer bar in Winston just got better. In addition to making there upstairs list better there is now a downstairs call Pete's Cellar.
The downstairs adds 30-40 craft beers by the bottle. Three TVs, two foosball tables, and five dart boards. Plus another bar and a smoke eater to clean out the smoke.
I had some delicious Stone IPAs in the bottle. The beer list upstairs is completely different than downstairs.
This is a must visit in Winston and has instantly become my new regular bar. (Well as regular a bar as a guy with a 3 year old can have)
It's really nice that they have beers that nobody else in town carries. Great place, fantastic servers. Friendly patrons.

The place is laid back but did not have the dark/slightly dangerous feel of some billiard halls that I have visited. The clientele was very laid back and mostly on the younger side - older than college kids but likely in 20s and early 30s. I did not venture to the downstairs area on this visit - I stayed upstairs/ground level.
Beers was served at a proper temperature with a reasonable amount of head though the place did seem to only serve beers in pint glasses.
The bartender was fast, efficient, and friendly and seemed to be knowledgeable in the beers offered - they even gave the person I was with a recommendation on a stout (which was nice considering the cold evening).
The place had a pretty decent selection considering they did not have a huge number of taps - they featured local Triad area brews (including the first time I have seen Westbend on tap) as well as some other NC beers and some national craft offerings.
There was not any food offered when I visited.
The prices were fair and similar to other places in the downtown Winston-Salem area.

A very nice, laid back place to hang out and have some good beer. The seating is comfortable, the bartenders are among the best, and they are pet friendly. Watched the playoffs while shooting pool, and just having a good time. They have a pretty good selection for their size, including several local brews from Foothills. It sits right in the heart of the fun in the downtown area, and the atmosphere makes you feel at home. I stop by there every time I am in town, and have yet to be disappointed..

Stopped in here with a couple people from work last night. Did not really know what to expect but was pleasantly suprised. Great place to just go and hang out for sure. Beer selections were above average, chimay and two hearted on tap along with a large bottle selection. Prices were reasonable and everyone seemed to have a good time. They did have some guiness and leni for the unititiated but over the selection was pretty good. A fun lace to hang out and shoot some pool, I would not mind going back here at all.

Having grown up in WS all my life, this place is an institution. The fact it is now a choice beer destination is awesome. The original sign is in the back of the pool hall, totally nostalgic.
Great selection: Terrapin Wake-n-Bake on draft! They have some good Euro selections and other domestic craft offerings on draft. I grew up down the street from one of the original owners. I got to talk with the Manager/Bratender who told me about how they are focusing their efforts offering the freshest draft beers from great breweries like Highland, Terrapin and others. they had plain Carlsberg on draft which is IMHO a great beer. Also Original Sin Hard Cider on draft. They also had a Leinenkugel seasonal on draft as well. It can get smokey, but up by the bar is not too bad. Since this place has been here the longest, Foothills and Mellow Mushroom are strategically found on either side within a couple of blocks. Stop by and be surpised by some great beers on tap.

Was in WS for beer with a list of places to go. Rec. Billiards happens to be between the Mellow Mushroom and Foothills and my friend and I just happened to notice it walking back to the car. Billiards? Sure.
Friendly pool hall atmosphere. Whoa you guys sell beer? Great! Wow not a bad selection for a pool hall. I had Duck Rabbit Rabid Duck while my friend had Celebration both on draft. Not bad. Sunday night happens to be half-priced pool night. GREAT AGAIN! Pool is normally $8 an hour for two people and $10/hour for three or four and on a full-sized table (I believe they had three). We played pool for thirty or forty minutes and it wasn't too busy or smokey which was nice. I think our pints (actually 16 oz. plastic cups) were $4-5 which wasn't bad at all considering my beer was 10% by volume.
Overall a great unexpected stop/treasure. I'll be sure to see this place next time I'm in Winston-Salem.

Finally got to check out this place, as I've gone by a few times and it was either not open yet, or closed for holidays.
Once you first walk in, you notice that this billiard hall is a bit more classy than most of its counterparts, yet it still maintains the kind of corner-pub intimacy that I am so fond of. It's not nearly as smoky as most pool joints, and the bar occupies just as much area as the pool tables in the back. By the by, I believe it was $6 per hour of pool... certainly not too bad.
As far as the beer, you can get either the 16oz or 23oz size if I remember correctly, and there are some winners to be found on the list: Chimay White, Duck Rabbit Imperial Stout, Duck Rabbit Wee Heavy, Sierra Nevada Summerfest, Edenton Big Boss...about 10 more, nearly all micros. Additionally, the owners are more than willing to talk beer with you, and welcome any suggestions you might throw their way.
One of my new favourite establishments in Winston, and only about 100 feet from Foothills. With all of these wonderful new places popping up in downtown Winston, it makes me sad I will be moving out of the state within the week.
