Grabbed this as my wife loves the style.
Pours a lemony yellow color with a fizzy texture.
The nose matches the look – also very lemony and citrusy with a bit of yeasty zest. It’s not quite a brett funkiness, but more of a spice.
The flavor is pretty much perfectly representative of the things I like about the style. Sourness initially, but right when you think it’ll make you pucker, it mellows and there’s even a bit of a malt body that creeps out. Lemon zest pink grapefruit, cider, and just a little bit of a pepper are the primary notes. The finish lingers with a citric tartness.
At such a low potency, with such a ton of flavor, this will be gone before you know it.
One of the best versions I’ve had and a truly enjoyable beer. Not for everyone, but really tasty beer I’ve already bought more of.
A sleeper hit for sure.

A: Hazy lemon-yellow with a crazy, fizzy head--this sounds like Alca-seltzer but eventually fades to no head with just tons of bubbles shooting to the surface; no lacing

S: Wow, this is tart and grainy and grassy; this smells like lemons and apples but also like grainy bread; it is sour and a bit funky--can't wait to drink

T: Not as sour as aroma indicated but still a pleasant lemon/apple/banana tartness followed by a grainy, grassy, bready quality; this beer is quite refreshing but it does fade rather quickly leaving a thin, dry finish

F: A tad thin for my taste and the beer nearly vanishes toward the finish but as you drink the thinness becomes less and less bothersome

O: This is a refreshing beer; I wish it had a bit more body and was a bit more sour but it's a nice tart, slightly fruity berliner weisse nonetheless

This brew pours a cloudy, lemony-yellow, with no head (draft) and no noticeable lacing. Floral and citrus notes intermingle with tart and sweet aromas, with a light funk present as well. Tart and refreshing, Berliner Weisse hints at green apples, wheat, lemon, and pepper. Light and flavorful to start, puckering tartness in the finish, this beer features a medium-light body with spritzy carbonation. We are not fans of adding syrups, fruit, or what have you to ANY beer, and this amazingly complex, tart, and refreshing brew is an example of what you might miss if you did.

cool take on a wheat beer. pours a hazy straw color with a tall white head. smells like typical hefe yeast and a nice sour beer combined into one. flavor is tart and sour at first, but mellows of with some citrus flavors and a flowery hop finish. feel is excellent, really fizzy carbonation compliments the sour flavor, and its light enough to drink a couple of. this beer has a lot of culinary potential too. glad i picked this one out

22oz bottle. Pours a clear (with hazy second pour) straw yellow with a fizzy white head that quickly diminishes to a thin film and then disappears.

The aroma is musty hay and some dry fruity sourness.

The flavor is wheaty malts with some sweet sugary fruits (apple and lemon), some champagne notes and a lot of tart sourness. The mouthfeel is medium bodied with some spritzy carbonation.

Overall, a nice light sour. I liked this better on tap.

Pours a murky copper with a small head that disappears almost instantly.

Smells of honey sweet pilsner malt and pears.

Taste is up front sweet pilsner malt that goes into a pear/peach acidic, sour bite that lasts through the middle and ends on a slightly bready malt profile. Really pleasing and to style.

Medium body and medium carbonation works well enough.

This is a damned solid beer that represents the style well, including the funky, sweaty, bile sour characteristic. I'll get it again.

22oz bottle with a QR code on the front label, $6. Nice cloudy yellow color. Smells wheaty and possibly tart. The flavor was quite good, wheat, sour lemon (but subtle), citrus, yeast. Very easy to drink and now I'm really interested in the style. Overall, a good tart wheat beer.

On-tap at Falling Rock Taphouse in Denver. Milky gold, thin fizzled, soda-like head. Clean and lactic on the nose, doughy and crackery malt throughout the palate. Light grassiness and tartness linger on the finish. A pleasant Berliner Weisse, no doubt.

Thanks to DividedAvery

22oz. brown bomber poured into a flute.

A: Pours a very pale straw with some haziness. A bit of a fizzy head on the pour without much retention or lacing.

S: Lemony tart aroma with some white wine and green apple notes. A light musky, funky aroma with some dry leathery notes. Very subtle cereal grain.

T/M: More of the tart lemon and green apple with some more of the white wine undertones. Great tartness and refreshing dry finish. More of the muskiness and leather. Body is light with vibrant carbonation. Finishes nearly bone dry.

D: Pretty damn good Berliner Weisse. I hadn't heard of this brewery and wasn't sure what to expect with a style like this, but they've made a pretty solid beer.

Pours a bright golden-yellow with 1 finger of white head after an aggressive pour. The head recedes very quickly. It has a strong pilsner lager like smell up front with some fruity "twang" behind it. As I continue to smell to fruitiness goes to peaches, lemons, and some sour green grapes. The taste is mildly but pleasantly tart with the same balance of pilsner malt and fruity acidity. The mouthfeel is nice and light and drinkable. Overall, this is my first Berliner Weisse and I really like the light drinkability and balanced flavor with just enough complexity to keep it interesting. Definitely worth seeking out if you like the style.

Pale straw color with a huge agressive head. The head was thin but tall, somewhat like steamed milk froth.

The smell is straw, wheat lemon, and piercing ammonia.

The lemon dominates the flavor and it has a sour tartness to it. The wheat is also front and center along with hay.

Mouthfeel is on the light side of moderate, same goes for the carbonation.

It's a pretty good beer and a nice, light, easy drinker. This would be a great summer beer, but I enjoyed it with a fire anyway.

Pours a straw yellow, hazy, with a big head of foam that doesn't last long. There is none in my glass now.

The nose is all aboot the wheat; I only sense some sort of tartness. .

I get a lemon zest and mild tartness to go with the wheat in the taste. That and a mild flavour of some kind of melon.

Light bodied with medium carbonation.

Nice brew. Refreshing brew.

Bottle (2011)

Acquired via trade
Thanks, quikzoo!

Slightly hazed light golden with a moderately sized near-white head that falls away quickly.

Pleasant aroma of wheat, lemon, and slight tartness, along with a very mild cheese and earth character.

The flavor is similar, though not quite as tart as some others within the style, with lots of wheat and lemon character. There's a touch of earth as well.

Light in body with moderate to high carbonation. Incredibly drinkable.

A nice berliner, and I'm very thankful I had the chance to try it.

A yellower shade of pale in the glass. Some bubbles at first, but flattens out after a couple of pours. Since it's so sharp, you don't mind the lack of carbonation as much. The aroma is very faint, like sawdust, but I give it points for not smelling like vinegar.

Light bodied as you'd expect, quite tart, but not so acidic as many beers of this type. A touch of fruit, but not much funk or yeast.

While it's not memorable, it's one of the most drinkable Berliners I've had. From the 22 oz bottle.

A golden bodied beer with a very small white head that settles quickly; minimal lacing, decent overall clarity.

Mild aroma of wheat and lemon. Smells vaguely tart and sweet but the smells aren't exactly bursting from the glass.

Simple flavor of grainy wheat and some light lemony tartness; not particularly sour or over-the-top at all. A little bit of lactic acidity, no bitterness to speak of. Minimally sweet. Straightforward but lightly flavored for a Berliner Weiss.

Medium-thin bodied with medium carbonation. Crisp and clean, pretty refreshing; unremarkable in the end, but went down easy after a six hour drive on a hot summer's night.

Thanks to sambo for the bottle!

Pours hazy light straw with complete absence of head and lacing.

Yeasty wheat aroma. Not very tart on the nose and a little bit of funk. Doesn't smell much like a Berliner

Loads of lemon in the flavor. A little bit of tart wheat and mustiness. Flavor profile is a lot more spot on than aroma, but still seems like there's something missing.

Very light mouthfeel with medium carbonation.

Not too bad, but there's something slightly off that I can't quite put my finger on. There isn't a whole lot of flavor here, but it gets points for being light and refreshing. I'd prefer a bit more tartness for the style.

A: Light golden, no lacing. Very effervescent.

S: Sour funk and musty with hints of grapefruit.

T: Sour, tart, with orange/grapefruit notes.

M: Very effervescent.

O: A little funky, a little sour, a little hint of citrus. A nice light sour ale from a local brewery I like. Not amazing, but solid.

Big thanks to fortsambo for sending some of this out my way. Served in a Mikasa tulip.

Pours a hazy light golden color with a white head that fizzles away immediately, faster than soda. No lacing or collar. A bit disappointing, even for the style.

The nose Has some wheat with a touch of acidity. A bit breads as well. Quite wheaty, actually. The flavor is very wheaty with some backing grain. Very faint tartness. Some dryness throughout. Very light body with good carbonation, bordering on spritzy. Tesla or and feel seem to be a bit young to me, and maybe this could have used a bit more time with some yeast and bacteria. Perhaps not quite ready when it was bottled, though this is a faintly nice Berliner.

Very soapy, big bubbled, white head. Dissipates quickly. Brew is decently clear with minor haze. If it wasn't for the steady column of bubbles I would have guessed it went flat.

Kinda wheaty and spicy. Orange and lemon citrus. Kinda absent of any defining scents.

WHOA! Tart lemon! Not sour, but tart. Very thin, lacking any body to hold this one together. Heavy carbonation and slightly dry.

Too thin, IMO. There's nothing unique or memorable, it's basic and bland. Final Say: Decent and drinkable, but sadly what I expected from CTB.

Had this on tap at the Falling Rock taphouse in Denver (after trying to order 3-4 different beers they had listed, but were 'out' of). Got a hazy yellow beer, plenty of cloudiness to it, looked the part, soft .5" head on it, bright white.

Aroma, man, this should have been called belgo weisse, because it smells a lot like a standard belgian yeast moreso than anything that would come from Germany or a reproduction of a German style. Really annoying I thought, not enjoyable to get the band aid esters and soggy wood funk.

Taste, still kinda mucked up by the belgian flavors, instead of being able to get a mouthfull of tart wheat, its like a mouthful of Belgo yeast over and over. The tartness is appreciable, and once you kind of get adjusted to what was kind of palate shock, the beer becomes less oppressive, and actually enjoyable. But I dunno, its kind of like being in a room where someone farted, stick around long enough, and you won't notice the smell as much.

If its worth anything, my girlfriend liked hers more than I did. Just too perfumy and belgiany for my tastes.

22 fl oz brown glass bottle with standard pressure cap served into a Halleroder bierkrug. Expectations are low because the label makes it look like crap. Not even an ABV on the bottle? Reviewed live. I believe this is me first beer from crabtree.

Served straight from the refrigerator. Side-poured with standard vigor as no carbonation issues are anticipated.

A: Pours a two finger white colour head of no real cream, bad thickness, and average retention. Colour is a murky semitransparent yellow-gold. No yeast particles are visible. No bubble show.

Sm: Weird candy syrup, clean malts, and vague hints of yeast. Weird esters are abound but I can't place them. A mild strength aroma.

T: Weird candied sugar, vague clean malts, and a strange funk that feels like off-bretts. Some slightly tart sourness on the finish. Bland and simple. I don't really care for it. Imbalanced and strangely built (even for the style). There's not much happening here. The funkiness is nice.

Mf: Smooth and wet. Somewhat watery. Adequate carbonation. A bit too thin.

Dr: Drinkable and nice in terms of the funkiness. I probably wouldn't get it again - it's pretty boring. A simple dull brew. Leave this one on the shelf.
