Went here for appetizers and beer as part of a conference. The food was quite tasty--some kind of bbq pork sliders, salmon quesadilla, mac-n-cheese, fish wrapped in bacon, etc. The tap selection was also impressive. Moose's Tooth IPA, Deschutes Porter, SN Pale Ale, Alaskan Winter, and probably a dozen other craft brews and some imports. Didn't pay much attention to what was available in bottles.
When we got there, the bar service was a little slow, but recovered as the night went on. The bar area is front and center when you come in. There is an area with tables and chairs if you wish to sit down while you eat. Also a dance floor/band area off to the side.
Beer prices seemed reasonable. Basically $5 for a pint.
Nice oasis for the craft beer fan in Girdwood.

Maxine's. This place used to be Max's. It was formerly just a bar with pub fare. A place that caught the overflow from the Double Musky, just down the pot-hole filled dirt road. Now...it's a trendy little bistro. We arrive just as they are opening. It's very quiet inside, maybe only two other couples there besides us. First thing we check is the tap board. They have 10 beers on tap (SNPA, FishTale IPA, Moose's Tooth IPA, Stella, Black Butte Porter, Dinkel Acher Dark, Lindeman's Framboise, Urthel Hop-It, Avery "The Reverend", and Guinness). I don't think their bottle list was that impressive, my notes only list Unibroue's La Fin Du Monde. They have a rotating beer that they call "Bargain Brew", $2. pints. It pays to check out which one it is, according to the waitress. Yesterday's choice was Molson. But she said that they have had the "better" beers as "Bargain Brew" in the past.
"Dinkel Acher, please". Just one of those beers that I came across at the Schwabenhof in Wasilla that I immediately enjoyed. And besides the Schwabenhof, this is the only other place I've seen it on tap in these parts. The appetizers menu is simple and to the point, not so many choices that one can't decide. We went with the steamed clams. The broth was good and totally worthy of bread dipping. Only complaint is that they weren't served with any seafood utensils. Imagine us trying to pry the meat from a tiny cherry-stone clam with a dinner fork.
We moved on to the entree, we split the Braised Shortrib Potpie. Very good, hearty, big chunks of carrots and potatoes. A little light on the meat, but whatever. They topped it off with an au gratin potato crust, in place of the more traditional pastry crust. Very good, but I think I could make a better pot-pie at home ;-)
We washed it down with an Urthel Hop It and The Reverend. Decided on coffee while we relaxed and let dinner do it's thing. They only serve coffee in a french press. The coffee was good. Hit the spot.
Another little gem in the sleepy ski resort town of Girdwood.
