I stopped by a couple of days ago for the first time and found a craft beer selection better than I was expecting. They had a nice selection of craft & imports there. They had 12 packs of Dale's Pale Ale which I've never seen before. I also found a couple of bottles of Fuller's Vintage Ale from 2007 which I promptly snagged.

Another place to check out for hidden gems for sure. They did have a mix-a-six deal but am not sure if they allow large bottles to be a part of that or not. I didn't notice any employees around in the beer section during my 20 minute visit.

Stopped in based on reviews from BA. Selection was good, but certainly not extensive, I've seen better selections in some supermarkets. Prices were on the high end and the specials advertised on their website were not the same as those on the shelves.

Help was non existent - I was in the beer aisles for about twenty minutes and no one offered any assistance.

Glad that I did not have to drive too far off the highway to C Gasbarro's.

Several hundred craft beers, offering a Mix-A-Six discount. Beers are organized by region on the shelves.

There are several rare and limited beers along with the mainstream craft styles.

New beers are brought in and the selection is developing. The selection varies from the east coast to west coast, along with an extensive belgian (abbey and trappists), german, and western europe beer selection.

There are extensive sales during holidays for breweries such as Leinenkugel, Cisco, Wachusett, Blue Moon, Brooklyn, Shocktop.

A large liquor store on Route 6 where Carpet Giant used to be. Beer is all the way in the back. They offer case pricing on some stuff. Good selection in the coolers, but most of the "good" stuff is out on shelves.

Good representation of many styles and sizes, but perhaps there are some holes. (Light on German hefe's, for instance)

Last time I was here, I did come away with a bottle of Brookyln Soracci and Samuel Adams Stony Brook Red.

They also have a selection of glassware to choose from.

I find myself going here a lot more lately. As previous reviewers have noted their beer selection has gotten much better over the past year. I was there this weekend and found Lagunitas Sumpin' Sumpin', which has been very hard for me to find at other stores. They have a large selection of Belgians, Germans, etc. There is a large cooler in the back that is also a walk-in. You'll find some of the larger craft breweries like Harpoon (Leviathon too), Smuttynose, Victory and Brooklyn in the coolers.
I often take advantage of their mix-a-six program. 10% off if you get six.
The employees are very helpful though I don't deal with them much except while at the register.

New review. Not the cheapest, not the best selection, a decent mix of NE favorites, a few national craft brands like Stone and DFH, and some Belgians. Dusty, old, out of date beer abounds, from the shelf to the cooler. DO NOT buy anything without verifying its age. You can find some cool vintage stuff, some stuff is way overpriced but other beers are reasonable. It seems like they use the 'No MA sales tax' as an excuse to add 20% to the bottom line on a lot of the beers.

They mislabel prices too- you gotta be on your toes at this place.

This place is great. It's a liquor emporium with beer in the back, but the selection is decent with chilled cases and 6 packs, but also a large section of singles to mix a six for 10% off. On my last trip I picked up 2 six-packs for just under $20 total. This included:

1 lone SN Summerfest (apparently the only in the store)
Abita strawberry
Dogfish HEad Peche
Dead Guy Ale
Mama's Yella Pils
Victory's Hop Devil
And some cheap local stuff.

I've always had good luck there, reasonable prices, good selection. On my last visit it was a little late on a weeknight and the singles area of beer was kind of picked through and messy but not bad.
EDIT 6/18/09: I think it depends when you go there. Another trip proved sparse with an unorganized beer selection and not what I was looking for. But, it's a solid local place with some unusual brews and a decent selection from Belgium, Germany etc.

I stopped in while in RI on business. I used to go somewhat regularly when I lived in MA.

The beer selection has certainly improved and they seem to be working on the craft beer selection. They had a good selection of northeast beers (Smuttynose, Alagash, Victory) as well as west coast beers (Stone, Green Flash), Belgians (Chimay, Orval, Maredsous) and other Europeans. Most of the better beer is not refrigerated. They have a large selection of mass produced beer in the coolers. They have a decent mix-a-six program with a 10% discount on the single bottle price.

Gasbarro's is a decent source of beer for the area and conveniently located but I wouldn't go out of my way to get there. It's not an A rated store.

I've visited Gasbarro's quite a few times as it is very close to where I work and I really dig the mix-a-six (10% discount). Decent selection of belgians (Chimay, Chouffe, Duvel, Rocheforte, etc.) and they seem to have quite a few germans, although I haven't really explored the style enough to evaluate the quality. Craft brew selection is not bad. DFH, a couple Middle Ages, Ommegang, Tuckerman's, Brooklyn, Weyerbacher, Ipswich, Unibroue. A very diverse selection of styles; however, the only downside for me is that I tend to gravitate towards the darker brews, and the selection seems to try to cater to many (which is not a bad thing). Cooler selection is not bad either. You will definitely find something to pique your fancy.

Visited again on 8/23/08.
Definitely seems like they've stepped up their selection, although anyone with a knowledge of beer has been lacking when I've been there. I've also noticed more glassware kicking around the shelves. Well worth a visit if you are in the area.

I pick up most of my beer here because it near my place. Decent selection. Place is huge, but is 10% beer. They have a small walk around with german brews. Some micro brews and german
beers. They have good sales some times. Sam Adams 12/$11 is what they have this week. I have never talked to the staff, I guess that they know more about wine.
I'll have to update this later on with some beers I have bought. They had Brooklyn Beer Chocolate Stout and that was hard to fine for me. They also have some Hoegaarden white ale, that was a new find.
2-12-07 : Something happened, they have a lot more german ales then last time. Picked up the Sam Adams Long Shot 6 pack here.
4-15-07 : I just up'd the numbers here. WOW large Craft beer section since the last time I was in . Place is taking off now. Picked up Brooklyn Local 1. Never seen this at any of my other stores I go to.

This place is nearby work for me, so I stop in occasionally to see if any thing special comes along. It's a very spacious store with lots of room in the aisles. The beer section occupies the rear 10% of the store. The craft brew portion is mostly local New England stuff, but at least they do well in that regard and have several of the local micro brews available on a consistent basis. However, even though most of them are stored cold, I question the freshness, since it's difficult to tell how quickly the stuff moves. There isn't much in the way of imports, Chimay along with the usual suspects and they group the Ommegang brews in the same section.

I can't really comment on the knowledge of the service people there, simply because I've been ignored every time I've been in there. Overall, the prices are within the usual range for the area. As with most stores, there are some beers that are going to be slightly lower than most and some beers that are slightly higher than most.

Edit 5/11/07: I've been in here several times since writing the review and the selection has improved dramatically and there seems to be more of an effort to expand the section. Also one of the employees mentioned to me that there has been a considerable effort to educate the staff on the products.
