Pours black with tan head, head doesn't linger but a nice crust of brown lacing remains. Smell is sweet roast and chocolate, some fruity yeast esters. Taste is bitter coffee roast, dark chocolate with a dry character. Mouthfeel is thick, however carbonation is high. Pleasant RIS indeed, I have another 22 to see how it ages.

Very dark appearance with tan head that dissipates quickly. Aroma is a mild malt. Taste is a watered down malt that just seems to be lacking for a high alcohol stout

Disclaimer: Aged 3+ years. Beautiful presentation: dense head with plenty of sticky lace. Lots of dried fruit and molasses. The carbonation is surprisingly high for the age. Prickly. Muted aroma and finish, although the roast aroma comes out as it starts to warm.

Pours almost black, with a gorgeous effervescent display that lifts a tall, tan head to the top of the glass, lacing perfectly as it retreats. The aroma is mostly of dark chocolate powder, but very boozy. It tastes like it smells, like thick chocolate with a blast of black licorice and burnt malt...and these flavors intensify as it warms. It's super creamy as well, one of the best mouth feels I've ever encountered, marred only by the alcohol burn at the end. This one is super heavy and while I enjoy what it brings to the table, it's almost too much. I have had a hard time getting through a whole bomber, both times I've had it. Maybe I should cut back to a shot glass and dump the rest in a growler to stretch it out a few days...

Attractive dark brew in the tall Blanche de Chambly (sorry, no Noir!) glass. Reddish tint and a beige foam that lasts well. Nice carbonation as it releases on the tongue. Dark bitter chocolate is the first taste.
Moderately sweet. A toffee flavor with a dose of sweet Vermouth. A lot of the blackened malt taste and a bitter aftertaste. Some sweet caramel, but there is a dirty leafmold undertone that is not so pleasant. Sort of grapey aroma.
Less drinkable than a lot of RIS brews, but worth a taste if you're interested in the style. From the 22 oz bottle I believe I got last fall at the brewery in Mt. Vernon. Maybe it hasn't aged too well.

Poured into a Reuben's Brew snifter. Pours pitch black, appearing opaque in the glass, with a quarter finger light brown head that dissipates to patches. Aroma of dark toasted malt, moch chocolate, and hint of licorice; lightly smoky. Flavor is slightly sweet chocolatey toasted malt, light vanilla and molasses, finishing with nice mildly smoky chocolate malt. Medium bodied with light creaminess. The flavors are not bold in this stout, but are still rich and very well balanced, covering all the flavors I want from a RIS. I've always considered this a quite underrated stout and local treasure. Really smooth and flavorful. Even after a week of drinking top notch barrel Russian and barrel aged stouts, this is a pleasure. I look forward to this each year and can't believe I haven't rated it here yet.

Dark, small head minimal lacing.
Roasted toffee, chocolate bitters, its a simple and dry stout. I liked it, initially.
As it warms, the brew's roast really starts to kick in, aroma and flavor wise.
The initial taste is of coffee, then it gets dark and bitter with toffee and caramel pushing through.
Not my favorite.

A-Black in the glass, but clear deep amber/brown when pouring, one finger brown head that doesn't last long.
S-Roasted malt, molasses, brown sugar, very slight chocolate.
T-Lots of roasted malt and some burnt notes. dark chocolate. not much else. On the bland side of things.
M-Medium bodied, not much carbonation.
O-There was nothing bad about this beer. However there wasn't anything eye opening.
