OK, I must admit I was skeptical at first of a beer called "beer of the gods" from Massachusetts that bills itself as a "Koelsch/Alt." I first had it on tap at Cambridge Common, but bought this sixer as I was coming back from a recent ski trip. It pours straw yellow and lightly hazy, with a half inch of bright white head that has some decent staying power. The aroma, surprisingly, is actually mostly malt, nice and toasty with a hint of sulfur around the edge maybe. Each sip opens with a bright German hop flavor, followed immediately by a bracing bitterness that somewhat overmatches the light body. As the sip evolves, the hop flavor returns, very strong but still smooth, like those noble hops are famous for. Hints of malt in the aftertaste - and that's it. By far the best part is the drinkability - the strong, smooth bitterness combined with a light body and relatively low alcohol make this a complete winner. I could drink gallons of it in a sitting. Tastes best in big gulps, even if I'm trying to have a sippin' session. I can see myself really getting into this one come springtime...

A - hazy light straw with minimal white head fades quickly, but leaves nice lacing.

S - Light malt is the overwhelming fragrance. Some herbal hops. I was afraid this might be an old bottle, but the taste...

T - Made up for the lack of aroma, Very flavorful for such a light beer, earthy herbal hops, with a little spice. Light malty sweetness to balance it off.

M - Light medium carbonation, clean.

O - Very happy with this brew. Not a huge fan of the style which makes this one all the more impressive. Very flavorful 4.5% option.

A- Hazy lemony yellow. Cloudy! Had a nice, bright white, foamy head. Tiny bit of lacing. Head does die out to a thin layer with lots of small bubbles from the carbination.

S- Lemony, little orange, bready/biscuty malts, spiciness from the hops. Has a wheat beer scent as well. Really well balanced.

T- Follows the nose to a T! Tastes like an American lager meets a wheat ale really. Something like a German hefeweizen. The lemon taste, with biscuty malts and a spiciness from the hops is what jumps out on the tongue. Overall there isn't much else that can be said for the beer.

M- light towards medium mouthfeel. Very crisp, clean, and refreshing. Very carbonated.

Overall I'd give this beer a solid B grade overall. Not too exciting, but it's above average for me when considering American lagers and some wheat ales. Fairly decent stuff from High and Mighty. I look forward to finding and try more of their beers.

Appearance: Arrives at the bar with a hazy honey color capped by a minuscule head that fades quickly leaving no lace

Smell: Bready and grassy

Taste: Bready malt with a very grassy and bitter hop kick that dominates the mid-palate and the finish

Mouthfeel: Light to medium body with low to moderate carbonation

Overall: Not too sure what to make of this beer; it could be a nice quaffer but the grassy bitterness of the hops just isn't sitting right with me; it's like a pilsner without the crispness
