a little bit smoke on top of a faint, but quintessential Belgian candied sweetness. but dry all and all. this beer is not nutty or rich like many brown ales and the sweetness doesn't trail into an after taste. not very complex and goes down smooth because of thin it is. my drinking companion gets a sour flavor in addition to the smoke

Poured from the bomber into a chalice.

Really not impressed with this one. Big licorice flavor, overpowering. Not much malt flavor, no hops. The aroma is a bit spicy, lots of yeast characterin aroma.

The mouthfeel is alright, bit thin for the style. It's a decent beer, but the spices are overwhelming, need to back off that licorice flavor.

pours a dark dark brown out of a bomber purchased at table and vine, taste is mellow with hints of charcoal and oak. Its very dry. Drinkability is tough for me due to the dryness. A beer I am glad i tried, but the entire bomber was a little too much for me.

Slight haze, deep brown with coppery edges. Dense tan/beige cap, sort of thin, coated both the beer and the sides of the glass - great stickage and good head retention. Yeast aroma, bready, fruity, some fresh and some dried, gingerbread. I had high hopes after giving a few good sniffs, but was let down by the flavour profile - most of the same character was there from the aroma (plus more plum and a bit of cocoa), but tasted a little out of balance. It was really dominated by the fruity, raisin, and plum character and didn't leave a lot of room for malts. Raisins and plums lingered in the finish. Dry, medium bodied, moderate carbonation with a little creaminess, slight warmth. Easy drinking, but lacking some of the flavour complexity to really make it a great dubbel.

Very cloudy, some sediment, good white foamy head and lacing. Has a fruity, hoppy scent to it. Applish.

Has an extremely sweet taste to it. Very fruity. Kind of flat and dry. Has some apple taste to it. Has a hoppy aftertaste. To be honest, it has a flat taste and is a little bit too sweet for me. I'm not a huge fan, but it's quality.

Really? Only one other person has reviewed this beer?

I like this brewery and I like the brewer. He once told me that he brews some of his beer line with a lower ABV and hop content because once he reached 40, his body couldn't process alcohol and beer like it did when he was younger. Now *there's* a thinking brewer. Thanks, Will.

As with other dubbels, the color is nothing spectacular-- a rather dull brown with a thin head and medium bubbles. If the color had a sound, it would be "thud." Nice nose, however, with the requisite bready yeastiness and some cherries on top. Gingerbread, too, which wins my vote for Most Favorite Smell in this beer. Nice and smooth taste; some padded density with light carbonation; a mellow dose of yeast and whole-wheat bread with a little banana, raisins and, at the very end, peaches and definitely more cherries. The finish is a tad bitter for my taste, but the dryness is also quite nice.

This is good beer from a small shop; definitely worth seeking out if you live in New England.

This was a big miss for me - it had none of the robust malty and fruity character I expect from a Belgian Pale Ale. I found it rather thin and a bit sour, more like farmhouse ale or a saison, and not a particularly good one of either.

Pours hazy deep orange with a big bubbly white head that falls to very sticky lacing. The aroma is fruity and perfumy, with jasmine, rose, and tropical fruit. The flavor is sharp, sour, fruity, with pear dominating, but with persimmonan apricot. There is a strong tea character with a thinness in the middle and a high, tight bitterness developing around the edge of the sourness. The mouthfeel is thin and a little dry, which leaves the sour fruit hanging on the palate.

Overall, A good beer, dark pour, fruity smell and taste, but not overly done. Slight after taste is the only issue I had, otherwise very well done.

Definitely a beer I would feel good about serving to friends, maybe not for everyone, but for something different I am glad I tried it.

Very drinkable, but I think after the pint and a half I'd be all set and try something else, not something I'd drink all night.

Nice pour and appearance with the suds staying on top and sticking nicely around the glass.

Great taste for an unfiltered offering. I'd like to try their other offerings.

Poured from the tap into a tasting glass.

The color is a light orange with a finger or two foamy white head some slight lacing.

The smell is sweet with some nice fruity flavors. Some banana, strawberry and orange in the nose.

The taste is a bit hoppy with some bitterness at first. There is some fruity flavor that does come across with some yeast and maltyness.

The fell of this beer does have some lingering aftertaste that does leave a syrup flavor in your mouth. It goes down well and it interesting in some parts a decent beer.

Pours a cloudy golden amber under a small fizzy white head. There was minimal lacing in the glass.

Aroma is floral with spices. Hops are understated, balance with the dry spiciness of the brew. A little sauciness and paper napkin among the spices. Some apple cider notes.

Light body and texture. Lively carbonation.

Drinkable and interesting.

This beer was 4 months old and could have set a little longer. It has promise, but came across as just a little rough.

22 oz. bottle - Poured into glass chalice:

Pours hazed orange with a thin white head that descends to a very thin cover. Little dots of lacing stick.

The smell is of pepper, banana, grass, with a "Belgian-esque" spicy fruitiness.

The taste is of sweet sugar, followed by a musty and metallic character. It has an aspirinish bitterness with an orange tart character.

The body leans towards watery, with noticeable carbonation. Not really quite effervescent or creamy.

It is thin in character with a somewhat puckering bitter touch and a sweetened fruitiness. The malt is a bit lacking in character, throwing off the balance, leaving it a bit aspriny in the finish. It does have something "Belgian-esque" about it.

A- Out of the bottle and into a Chimay glass goes the cloudy orange brew. And head erupts fortuitously in a white foamy top oer the liquid. Lacing lines form like WWI troops waiting for the Germans...

S- A deliciously aromatic beer. There's sweet fruits- strawberry banana, sweet orange. There's spice- sweet anise, coriander. A little more warmth brings out some caramel, unexpected but interesting.

T- I'd have to say that this is one of the very few beers I've had that has a better smell than the taste. Not that the taste of this one is bad, just not nearly as complex and delicious as the smell. There's more malt and hops, and less yeast and spices to the tongue compared to the nose. Graham crackers and bitter dirt hops with tinges of tobacco and green leaves. Although there is some of that fruit it is much subdued.

M- Lingering bitterness bordering on the "stone effect" but not nearly as powerful. And it causes some syrupyness of my saliva.

D- Overall a quality beer. Definitely better than my expectations (although I was expecting a single abbey instead of its pale ale cousin before I started my review). Great smell and a decent taste to go with. Wish I could get my hands on some more of this.

Draft @ Sierra. Pours nice golden color, but just seemed too ordinary against some of lets say Maudites character. Somewhat thin and light decent crisp flavors. Nothing I would have again, but neither is anything I'v ehad from high and mighty to this point. I'll stick with pretty things and berkshire as the two best wmass locals.

A: Poured a medium rustic orange with a soapy ½ finger almond colored head that dissipated rather quickly to a spotty covering while leaving a thin, broken spongey ring lacing. The clarity was turbid with a thick pea-soup haze with an indistinguishable carbonation.

S: The aroma was funky cold tangerines with a herbal (basil) hopping. There was slight underlying notes of candy sugar coming through along with a soft dry wheat scent coming off rather reserved.

T: The initial flavor begins with tart and citric tangerines, dry wheat and a sweet and tart mixture of orange grinds along with candy sugar. The overall feel was musky and damp with warm lemons and hints of herbal hops coming through before finishing out with a sour fruitiness of pineapple and starfruit. Overall this was nicely hopped per style, very smooth in delivery with a tart and sweet side funk to it that was just enough to keep things interesting and respectable.

M: bright and crisp from the start with a very smooth and easy feel. Medium bodied this beer washes down leaving a dry sour fade of warm bitter citrus and dry wheat.

D: better then average yielding little compliant. While the complexity was a bit lacking, this beer comes off as a moderately easy drinking American interpretation with just enough funk to give you a general appreciation. Would consider buying this again, would make for a good intro beer for those unfamiliar to the style.

A - Cloudy orange body, off white head which leaves nice lacing.

S - Delicate floral hops, not as much Belgian yeast as I usually expect but still subtly spicy as it warms.

T - Somewhat sweet and fruity up front, followed by a mild vegetal flavor, floral noble hops and Belgian yeast. Very mild brew, I wouldn't necessarily guess BPA but it's there.

M/D - Appropriate body, easy to drink considering the ABV.

Overall interesting enough to try their other styles but I won't get this again. Bottled October 2008, might explain some of the flavor issues.

I am an immediate fan of the High & Mighty beers, on draught or in bottle and this one was no exception, albeit not perfect. It claims to be a Belgian pale ale, which it really doesn't live up to. Rather, it tastes more like a nice cask farmhouse ale. The pour is an orange-brown that darkens in the glass with a nice full tan head & good lace that hung on throughout. The aroma had a nice dusty herb, apricot-orange and peppery lemoncake smell. The flavor was a bit less complex, more sweet malt, but still light on the palate & quite drinkable. Nice and soft like a good cask-conditioned ale, hints of pepper & yeast stuck in the nose while a bit of sour tart rounded out the malt. I'd definitely love to try this on draught & see if the sweetness is subdued. Still, a lovely one.
