One of a handful of Washington state breweries relatively new to the triad area.Poured into an imperial nonic a deep cola color with a well defined sticky light tannish colored head,a broken ring of lace was left behind as it settled into a creamy mass.Caramel malt aromas dominated for me,a bit of dark fruit as well, very light earth from the hops.Flavors start out sweeter with caramel again dominant,a tinge of molasses and vanilla as well, a little rawness in the finish. Its a decent porter, not anything major going on here, but decent.

Appearance – This one came out a very dark brown in color with a nice, big, lacing brown head.

Smell – There is a huge grape and chocolate nose to this Porter. It’s covered in some “burnt toast” malt that has some roasty notes to it as well.

Taste – The nice roasty notes from the nose find their way nicely to the taste. The chocolate was there as well but a little more laid back. However, the inevitable PacNW hoppy lemony zesty zap is here in spades.

Mouthfeel – This one was a little too thin for the flavors. The taste and especially the nose screams, “medium to full-bodied,” but the mouthfeel isn’t even medium.

Drinkability – This one went down OK. If we could just get that tangy hoppy bite out of our PacNW porters though things would be a lot better.

I have to drive to New Jersey to get this at a Total Wine. Of the 23 US porters I have tried this one is the most sessionable and is therefore my favorite.

The all important aroma and taste is all rich dark chocolate with coffee accents. A medium body porter that drinks smooth without any harshness. As the chocolate flavor diminishes the roasted malt and coffee linger to leave your palate wanting to take another gulp. This is a year round porter for dark beer lovers.

This poured to a fairly black color, however when held to the light some reddish amber hues shine through. The head i thought was very impressive, thick and lush and sandy brown...in a good way. It hung around fairly well until finally dissipating with some nice lacing. I was not impressed with the nose on this, slight coffee tones but fairly neutral and mild in scent. Taste was fair with coffee notes really dominating the palate. The real downfall for me was the mouthfeel...quite watery and thin, doesn't really stick around on the toungue. Drinkability I rated high because of the thin body and limited taste this ber goes down fast for a porter and doesn't leave you feeling as full as most others.

Dark brown pour, didn't really see much develop in terms of head or retention, not a big deal. Aroma was chocolate malt.

Taste was heavy, if not exclusively chocolate malt, didn't taste any added choclate, just lots of chocolate malt. Decently bitter. Slightly hoppy. Maybe some syrup or molasses to keep the beer on the thicker side. The tiniest amount of dark fruit possible. Licorice.

Carbonation in the mouthfeel was a little on the low side. More of a sipper than I would have expected, but not because its hot or anything. A solid beer, seems to be a decent price, widely available at Total Wine it seems.

Appearance: black and opaque with thin brown head

Aroma: roasty with a subtle dark fruitiness, not overwhelmingly aromatic

Taste: roasty and well balanced with a little fruitiness, easy drinkability

Mouthfeel: medium body, low carbonation, easy drinkability

Overall: Not bad overall, nothing revolutionary but definitely a solid choice. Roasty and medium bodied.

22 oz bottle served in a Belgian snifter.
The pour is very dark reddish-brown and clear but looking black in the glass, with a small light brown head. The head is mostly short-lived and produces little lacing.

Aroma: markedly appealing mix of medium and dark roasted malts and dark fruits, with hints of chocolate, sherry and coffee. Nice impression of sweet, dark baked bread.

Taste: Mildly sweet and malty with notes of dark fruit, spicy hops, chocolate and caramel at the start. Gets progressively less sweet and more malty, with the dark roast and some smoke coming forward. Mildly bitter/sweet with a clear note of coffee and a touch of smoke at the end, and lingering for a good while afterwards in an aftertaste that ultimately turns mildly bitter.

Mouthfeel: Medium+ body; creamy in texture with a medium-low carbonation, but a light finishing bite.

Overall: a very good Porter that smells and drinks like a 'bigger', more expensive porter.

Poured a nice deep, almost black/brown with a reddish tint and a half finger of off-white head. About right for a porter. It looks true to form and quite nice. Scents of roast malt, black coffee, dark cocoa, some creamy vanilla-like aromas and some soy sauce. A good, typical porter aroma. Nothing amazing, but pleasant. Taste begins with roast malt, some dark chocolate, black coffee notes, sweet caramel flavors, some slight fruity flavors, faint vanilla and some slight sour flavors. These flavors are sustained throughout the sip and into the finish. Aftertaste is slightly bitter with roast malt and burnt vegetable matter notes. A bit sweeter than some other porters, but fairly true to style, nothing out of the ordinary, but that's good sometimes. Not too complex, pleasant and easy to drink. Mouthfeel is medium bodied with moderate-high carbonation, and a somewhat creamy feeling. Quite easy to drink, as a porter should be, though the carbonation may be just a touch too high. Overall this is a good porter. Its nothing out of the ordinary or amazing, but it is a good, down-to-earth session ale. If that's what you want this is a good bet.

A: dark brown/black in color, hard pour got 3/4 inch head. some lacing.

S: Burnt coffee and chocolate malt. very bread like yeast nose. Bitter smell comes off it as it warms more.

T: a Tart bittersweet chocolate and coffee Taste dominates. Fairly bitter hop wise for porter, was a tad overpowering at first. Citrus like hops flavor overpowers this porter and make it not to style IMHO. Its not undrinkable.

M: Medium-bodied. Medium carbonation. thick and a tad mineral like bitterness on after taste.

O: well on 3rd of a six pack, not all at once. its not a bad beer after having others, but today it was the first and it did not do it for me. I feel like its too hoppy for style. But its a west coast beer, so you know....

Good smell and look. Very heady on the pour, a little too carbonated, a bit sour in the end. Still, it had some of the basic characteristics of most porters. Nothing to brag home about. Would not buy a six pack of it, but an ok beer if you want a porter and can't find a better one.

This one poured a very dark brown with a thick, two fingered tan head and some nice lacing on the glass.

Aromas of nice chocolatey malt. Strong winey, alcohol aromas as well. Some toasty burnt maltiness.

Strong chocolate taste with some roasty malt flavor. Also some lemony, citrusy hop tastes as well.

Mouthfeel is a little on the thin side with some alcohol warmth.

Quite drinkable. A nice smooth porter.

Poured a thin head on a black body.
The aroma is roasted and burnt malt, strong on the burnt part. It's bold and I like it.
The taste has a good burnt malt to it with a touch of cream to balance it out. One sided but pretty good.
The texture is smooth with moderate carbonation.
Enjoyable if you like a bold porter.
