Some new bomber selections strolling down the aisle at TW, this one caught my eye, let's give it a whirl.. Popping the top I get a nice waft of roasted malts and light coffee and chocolate. Pours into a chalice a very deep opaque brown with a nice thin tan head. On the taste there is a super roasted malt flavor that hits you right off the bat, more than one would expect, but this is a good thing. The taste then transitions into a milder slightly hoppy middle. The end finishes sweet with a bitterness in the background that then takes over and controls the aftertaste. A very transitional brew with good complex flavors. The mouthfeel is a bit more biting than silky smooth than one would expect for a porter. The taste however compensates for the poor mouthfeel. A good drinker, not a great porter but quaffable.

Poured a nice deep, almost black/brown with a reddish tint and a half finger of off-white head. About right for a porter. It looks true to form and quite nice. Scents of roast malt, black coffee, dark cocoa, some creamy vanilla-like aromas and some soy sauce. A good, typical porter aroma. Nothing amazing, but pleasant. Taste begins with roast malt, some dark chocolate, black coffee notes, sweet caramel flavors, some slight fruity flavors, faint vanilla and some slight sour flavors. These flavors are sustained throughout the sip and into the finish. Aftertaste is slightly bitter with roast malt and burnt vegetable matter notes. A bit sweeter than some other porters, but fairly true to style, nothing out of the ordinary, but that's good sometimes. Not too complex, pleasant and easy to drink. Mouthfeel is medium bodied with moderate-high carbonation, and a somewhat creamy feeling. Quite easy to drink, as a porter should be, though the carbonation may be just a touch too high. Overall this is a good porter. Its nothing out of the ordinary or amazing, but it is a good, down-to-earth session ale. If that's what you want this is a good bet.

A- pours with a really large sea foam like head. light tan color. good lacing along the glass. decent head retention. nice dark porter with little light shining through. I would have to say so far so good.

S- a malty roast note. however, it has a syrupy kind of smell to it. almost like its going to be super sweet. the longer you smell it the more and more it seems to take on vanilla coffee aroma. Creamy.

T- Very sweet. Milky with a caramel vanilla flavor to it. The syrup factor is very prominent. It starts to mold into a coffee maple syrup kind of flavor.

M- Very slippery by porter standards. for such a huge head in the beginning I expected alot more of a creamy foamy texture. I was looking for full body and this came up way short.

O- As I am not a huge fan of porters as much as I am of stouts and such, I expect alot out of my porter when I do drink them. The appearance of this gives all the hope in the world for it to be a great beer. The syrup factor of the nose and taste were a disappointment. However it is a very drinkable beer. It doesn't overwhelm the palate nor leave a cloying aftertaste. I would drink again if offered but I would not go out of my way for this one. I would lable this a average middle of the road porter.
