Appearance- Pours up an okay amount of head which appears to have pretty good retention. The head is a light to medium beige while the body is a chestnut to chocolate brown that shows burgundy and maroon when held up to the light. Lacing tends to sheeting.

Nose- Fairly low key. I get some bubblegum, a mild note of cocoa, and slight evidence of chocolate. The chocolate and cocoa or much stronger from the bottle. I don't get any of the crisp citrus aroma that the website mentions. Very one-dimensional but still nice. Swirling shows a brief hint of an ester which might be oranges or raisins.

Taste- Starts off with a sweet front that borders on cloying. Some citrus (mostly orange), a strong note of raisins (maybe even plums), and even a small tendency toward soy sauce. Shows mild chocolate and cocoa from the middle to the finish where there is a slight woody bitterness. Slight chalk on the finish as well. No real flaws but lacks presence and complexity. Actually, the overly sweet raisin notes and suggestion of soy sauce does seem like a slight flaw. The mild chocolate and cocoa balance it well but not enough cancel out its effects. Pretty much just an above average beer. Some pine and resin on the finish. Even a tiny bit of earwax. Some caramel on the middle which has a slight burnt quality on the finish.

Mouthfeel- Just below medium bodied with low carbonation. Seems a little thin. This might actually be undercarbonated. Slight hints of syrup to the texture. It is pretty smooth and this redeems it to some extent.

Drinkability- Pretty easygoing with no signs of heat but it's also pretty boring. I think I paid under two bucks for a bottle and I guess this goes for about 8 bucks a six pack. Okay but not something I would purchase again.

Overall- Just above average with hints of just being average. The cloying aspects mellow and make the beer more accessible but they don't make it more interesting. Possibly worth at try but I wouldn't dwell on that decision to long.

Pours a thin head on a dark, dark brown colored body.
The aroma is a rich malt, caramel and a little lemon zest.
The taste is malty sweet forward, molasses in the middle and finishes with a mild bitter note.
The texture is a little sticky with low to moderate carbonation.
An enjoyable sipper.

Poured from bomber to glass. Great, dark color with a slight ruby hue. Thick, tan head and left lots of lace to decorate the glass. I didn't pick up crisp citrus aroma as listed by the brewer. It was a tad sweet with coffee/bitter aftertaste. Medium viscosity, above average essence of alcohol. I pulled it out of a fridge at 37deg but as it warmed to room temp the flavor and mouthfeel was enhanced. It was a real enjoyable beer. I'll be drinking again, for sure. A bit of discrepancy on style per the brewer's site, this one and RB. Others list as Dunkelweiss/Dunkelweizen.

It wasn't 10 Degrees Below when I drank this, perhaps 10 Degrees Celsius above. A full 22 ounces to drink. On to the beer:

Very dark brown and almost black in color, topped with half an inch of head and decent lacing.
The aroma starts off like a winter warmer; solid toastiness upfront, fennel, a note of licorice, allspice, molasses. Surprisingly complex is the aroma.

The taste is acceptable, even if it doesn't equal the quality of the aroma. Flavors include figs, plum, a vague toastiness, and molasses. The alcohol hides itself well, but despite its size, I was hoping for a fuller mouthfeel.

One of many ways to be happy during the colder season is to drink this winter warmer. It's....hold on....it's a weizenbock? I wouldn't have suspected.

Great winter beer that tastes more like Jubelale than a Weizenbock. I got lots of hops and lots of malt and a very smooth luscious mouthfeel. Everything I wanted in a Winter Warmer. Will need to buy a few of these while they last . Great stuff and a little under the radar
