Rescued from a friends semi-neglected beer cellar. Could not find an expiration date. Wasn't sure they were still making this because of a lack of recent reviews, but a check on their website confirmed they do. Pressing on, a cloudy amber appearance with a fairly large white head and good lacing. Floral hop aroma with a hint of resin. Grainy mouthfeel with only a modest hop presence. Thin, watery palate, average carbonation and a short lived finish.

Pours amber, hazy with thick head. Aroma of pine and citrus hops. The taste is hop-forward with a bit of harshness that is not alltogether pleasant. We are not going to spend a lot of time on this one. There's stiff competition everywhere for IPAs and plenty are better.

Cloudy yellow color, above average carbonation. Aroma is bread, citrus but flavor is mostly hops with a bit of malt behind it. What most ipa fans will dislike about this is exactly what I liked. It wasn't overly bitter and allowed the malt to add to the taste

Pours a slightly cloudy medium yellow gold with persistent lacing.
Smell is grain, citrus and light floral notes.
Taste is bitter hops. Subtle pine and citrus but mostly just bitter hops.

I don't see any bottle date listed. On my 12oz bottle it says "ALC 5.8% BY VOL."

Appearance: Tons of carbonation. As I pour the bottle is builds a massive head that consumes half the glass with only a sliver of beer at the bottom. When I popped the cap I got a massive hiss so I was already a bit leery. The body is this dark caramel brown color with haze. The massive head has this eggshell white color to it. Tons of visible carbonation bubbles. It looks like a fire-hose of bubbles coming from the bottom of the glass.

Aroma: I get some buttered toffee and some light flowery soap aroma. While it doesn't smell bad it just isn't the best combination of aromas.

Taste: I get this great combination of pine, toast, and toasted caramel. It tastes a bit like what I would imagine a Christmas candle tastes like. The aftertaste has this flowery flavor which is a bit like lilac. The finish carries the flowery profile and adds a bit more pine. It is certainly a very interesting beer to drink.

Mouthfeel: The carbonation is too high and the body feels a bit too heavy for an IPA.

Overall: It was pretty ridiculous trying to drink this beer. I kept having to pour just a tad and watch the whole thing erupt like a science fair volcano. The beer itself has a very interesting flavor profile so I would recommend at least trying it once. I would be a great beer for the winter because of the aforementioned Christmas character it possesses. It is not an IPA that I would drink every day but I might pick it up again during the holiday season if it is around.

The Bottle Backlog here at Chez Woody continues to belch forth unseen gems & I am happy to indulge myself in some Scuttlebutt.

For those not in the know, "Scuttlebutt" has two nautical meanings: 1) drinking fountain, 2) the gossip & rumors that are spread in congregation around meaning #1. The label depicts a pretty blonde mermaid looking over her right shoulder while holding a foamy mug of beer in her left hand. I may be inspired to get this as a tattoo.

I Pop!ped the cap, winked at the mermaid & commenced a VERY gentle pour. An in-glass swirl raised two fingers of dense, foamy, tawny head with moderate retention. Color was a gorgeous Deep Amber/Light Copper to Copper (SRM = > 13, < 17) with NE-quality clarity. Nose smelled strongly of pine hops, underlain with caramel malt. Mmm. Mouthfeel was medium, but prickly with carbonation, giving the hops a chance to really sink in. I love when that happens. I have been off of my feed of late as a self-described, self-avowed hophead & it is nice to get a fix to cure the jones. The taste was mainly pine, but there was enough caramel sweetness in there to keep it from being like drinking straight Pine-Sol. Finish was dry, piney & just what the doctor ordered. Thanks, Gale!

Amber with a good sized head. Good lacing. For an IPA, this brew is a little sweeter than I prefer. The ABV was lacking as well or an IPA. Gale Force has lots of caramel flavor. It is creamy and reminds me of homemade cookies. A slight bitter finish. A good brew, but not my favorite that is for sure.
