First review? Right on!

Brewery is on a busy street away from the historical (and touristy) old town.

Atmosphere was good. The place was an obvious locals joint. Everyone seemed to know everyone else. Except us of course. But the people were friendly, and we got a chance to talk with the brewer who seemed to be a pretty cool guy.

Quality was decent. I had a couple of their "Whiskey Barrel" aged beers, a Stout and a Pale. Both were pretty good, but seemed to focus too much on the barrel flavors, and not enough on the beer flavors. They were still pretty good beers, but not great, and too expensive at $6.25 for a pint.

Service was slow. For a while I thought maybe it was because they were understaffed, but then I noticed they just weren't really that prompt. They were friendly though.

Selection was good. There were 9 or 10 beers, can't remember exactly.

Food was standard pub fair. Nothing special, but not bad.

Value was ok, except for the overpriced barrel aged beers.

Overall? Ok... I'm glad we stopped, not sure if I'd make an effort to go there again though.

Food used to be better.

The beer although having many option are decent but nothing special, Strong blonde is my favorite by them but personally only a 3.56 by BA rating.

BBQ, and the fish n chips are their best dish.

The bar fills up quick so get there early.

I've been going to this brewery in one form or another for at least 16 years. Hangtown, Placerville, multiple locations, owners, brewers etc... Over time the beer has gotten better but I would still only rate it as average, sometimes I just feel it's a rushed effort. They do have a fairly wide variety of styles and seasonals which is always fun and like I said, recently the beer has seemed to be improving.

The bartenders are friendly and attractive although not always as knowledgable about beer as you would like in a brew pub. The lighting is perfectly dim and the bar is almost always packed with locals. Good place to get a sense of the local flavor.
The food is above average for brew pub fare but nothing to write home about. I've had a couple bad experiences with the ownership being rude/short during busy understaffed times and although I understand stress, you've still got to put your customer satisfaction above all else. There are indeed seperate male and a female restrooms and a recent addition of a nice outside patio and additional parking which was sorely needed.

Very small bar area. Bartenders where par at best asked if they had an DIPA and he offered there Pale Ale which I did not care much for and was not impressed with the offering in place of a DIPA. They only had one bathroom that is only a single use that is not very good for a place that you goto to drink. They seemed to have alot of tables crammed into a small area so it was not very private. You were right next to the person next to you. The Boysenberry Ale is very good smelled of fresh boysenberries and had a finish but was not as sweet as I had expected was very nice. and XSB Xtra Strong Blonde is a kick in the Head but very nice to drink. They also had a Tangerine Ale that smelled very strongly of tangerines but tasted of the white parts on the orange.

The owners are great people. Foods ok although I tend to be picky the beer is about a 4.0. If you find yourself there order the beer sampler. This is a huge plus since you get to try all of the tapped beer. There strong blonde will hurt you so be careful. My first time drinking it I had 2 and wonder why I was uncomfortable driving. I later learned it has over 9% alcohol content. So in essence it was like drinking a 6 pack of Miller or some other standard beer. Good flavor just be careful. The have a light ale that is very good also.

Nice location in downtown Placerville, it is in the busy part of town but nice friendly old town feel to the place. Plenty of open space for a uncrowded feel, with plenty of dinning room for familys or bigger groups, a large wooden bar in the middle of the place. Friendly service and quick to get you food or a drink. Has a good selection of Pale Ales, Porters, Hef, and a "Dirty Blonde" a mix of Pale Ale and Porter. Food was good and big portions, big enough to share with a date. In the end the price was a little more than expected but a great place to stop by for a drink.
