Pours a cloudy, straw golden with a sudsy head that thins to a ring. The aroma is fairly light with notes of banana, citrus, acidic sourness, and a grainy character.

Lightly sweet with banana and citrus flavors and pleasing tartness in the finish. Light-bodied and crisp with a light dryness in the finish.

Flavorful, refreshing and pleasingly tart.

On tap at the brewpub, no syrup needed!

Pours a lightly hazed straw yellow, very light in colour, medium sized white head forms, settles down to a thin ring, a few spots of lace stick to the glass.

Smell is interesting, very herbal, kind of sweet and sour, lemons, apples, toast, pretty malty and full, not as acidic as some.

Taste is all over the place, very minty, apple juice, sweet and sour middle, pineapple acidity, lemon grass, toasty malt, pretty sour in the finish.

Mouthfeel is light bodied with medium to high carbonation, feels a bit vinegary, and the herbal character throws me off a bit. Not your straight lemonade berliner weiss, but pretty good.

Enjoyed at the brewpub, no syrup added. Hazy, wan caramel or dirty hay colour. It had a fine, white collar that was very sticky. The aroma was a bit earthy with light malt and a bit of wheat sourness. Somewhat sharp bitterness, very clean with a slightly salty sensation and a sour finish. Light bodied with moderate carbonation. Dry with a bit of slickness. Refreshing and crisp.

on-tap at deep ellum in allston, ma, on april 22, 2009, during the week of the craft brewers conference. served in tall wiessbier glass.

pale golden straw. hazy. nice, big foamy white head, gradually fading to thin layer, then wisps. splotchy rings of lace, but they mostly fade away.

aroma: almost pilsner-like in aroma. toasted malt and mild noble hops, with just a touch of lactic acidity and funky mustiness.

taste: tart with background of watery maltiness. hints of more complex vinegar tones. trace of noble hops with faint bitterness. spice? watery, but light and refreshing.

thin, light and a bit watery, but with acidic crispness and lively carbonation, making this very refreshing and drinkable.

This is a unique treat. This is a Berlin-style wheat beer with woodruff syrup added, which is all-the-rage in Europe.

This golden-hued amber color is turned a swamp-water green color from the syrup. English pea puree!! lacy-white head, very fine, also tinted green! This is not St.Patrick's day but my beer is green!!

The nose is weird, it's a minty green alcohol, the herbal, musty wheat is muted by yhe syrup.

Taste's of candied green apples and dry wheat, very sweet and cloying from the syrup which is supposed to be used to "cut the tartnes" the server said. Tangy but too sweet, syruppy but originally very dry.

Try this one without the added syrup!!

Thank you CBC for this unique opportunity to try a woodfuff syrup in my beer!!

A: Pale golden amber body. Fairly cloudy. No head or visible carbonation.

S: Super tight nose. Perhaps a touch of wheat but no funk.

T: Wheat, lemon, and some mild sourness. It seems to be more of a mildly infected pale wheat ale than a berlinner weiss. This should much more sour. Almost more sweet than sour.

M: Medium body provided by some wheat.

D: Its not a bad beer but it's not to style. It needs more lacto and more carbonation, and more lacto.

Clean and crisp honey-lemon-pineapple color. Thin soap sud head goes quickly.

Mild scent with even a little Pilsener texture, some yeast/wheat electricity and slight citrus sourness.

The sour texture here is enjoyable. Strong wheat backbone with good yeast component. Crisp and fresh.

Carbonation makes this nice and light - sour citrus pucker on back of palate expands to whole mouth on finish. Tart and tingly.

Very drinkable and enjoyable - clean and good for hot summer day.

Had this at the brewpub shortly after they tapped it, the spec sheet cites an OG of 1.039, FG 1.006, and pH of 3.4, as well as an extended blurb on the history of the beer and the two homemade syrups available as a traditional (to modern Germany) sweetener, woodruff and raspberry. I had it "ohne SchuB", that is without the syrups. I had a bit added to the last 1/3 of glass, I went with woodruff, which is an herb that made my beer green, St. Paddy's style, and added a generic sugariness to it, perhaps a touch of tea as well. I preferred it plain, which is what this review is based on.

Served in a cervoise, Berliner Kendall is a murky golden sand with only the slightest white collar, very still. I thought this was the Champagne of the north? Where's the carbonation and head? It looks a lot like a lambic...

Smell is sweeter and fruity, with a touch of wheat, and only a slight hint of lactic.

Taste is quite different then the nose, not sweet at all, mainly very grainy, wheat, with the lactobacillus providing more of a puckering sensation on the sides of the tongue then any significant flavor, and the pucker is pretty mild, albeit unmistakable. Otherwise, it has a pretty clean finish.

Mouthfeel is on the drier side, but with a medium body, it seems a little thick for the SG.

Drinkability is pretty good, it's a nice little wheat beer, but for a Berlinerwiess, I want a lot more carbonation and acidity. Still, it's not a style you see taken on to often by brewpubs, so I was happy to see it at CBC and have a chance to give it a try. It hit the spot on a hot day even if it felll short of what I look for in the style.
