On Tap at the brewery on 10-15-13

A - Pours a hazed gold color one finger of white head with some thin lacing
S - Big grape and orange juice, some dank pine, a touch of spice, some dank pine
T - Lots of grape and orange juice sweet mango, some caramel malt, definitely some alcohol, very sweet and ripe tropical flavors
M - Big cloying sweetness, big big feel, some alcohol burn.
O - Very good IPA, I dont see where the belgian part comes into play, but I did get a bomber, I'll re review later

Updated: 12-14-13 from Bomber

The aroma is STELLAR, lots of grape, some mango.
Taste has a lot more belgian punch that from my notes at the brewery, but is still good.
Mouthfeel is still lacking, you do get a strong spicy bitterness, and its kinda dry.

Audacious? Yes.

Hoppy? Hell Yeah.

Audacity of hops? Abso-fucking-lutely!

Nectar of the greek hop gods!

I won't write you a long ass book about this once in a lifetime hop centric ale. What I will do is tell you it is so laden with hop oils that you can feel the oily viscosity on your palate as it goes down. The malt base is clean and neat and just enough to support the shocking and almost illegal amount of hops in this boozy endeavor.

CBC; a now sincerely loyal fan has been won.

Everyone else. Try this beer. It will earn a well deserved spot on your love list.

Awesome job CBC!!!

Cambridge Brewing Co – Audacity of Hops – Belgian IPA

Bottled 8/2/13, consumed 9/27/13, 8% ABV, 22 oz. bomber to tall tulip

Cloudy light orange. 1.5 fingers of off white head with large bubbles.

Smell is buttery, sweet tropical fruit, some pine and a bit yeasty.

Hops and yeast battle for the top billing. Hops win out slightly by virtue of bitterness. Grapefruit, lemon, spice, some barnyard must, grassy herbs. Tons of flavors popping up on this one. No real sign of the ABV. Bitterness expands when this one hits the back of the tongue. There is a large hop presence but it seems to come in layers. Takes some time to find all of it. Mouthfeel is pretty wet. Not quite thick but definitely full bodied. Rather sticky on the lips. The aftertaste is lingering bitterness, hop resin, some more yeast, and pith. There is a buttery flavor that flashes here and there, sometimes rather noticeably, but it doesn’t feel like a problem to me. There are some hints of the peppery component you’d find in other Belgian pale ales. I’m really enjoying the complex combinations that are presenting themselves. I should not have gone so long between bottles of this one.

This falls right in my wheelhouse with the marriage of IPA and Belgian flavors. I thought it was damn good. I’d have to say that Audacity is to Belgian/white IPAs what Stone SSR is to black IPAs for me. It pushes out the limits of what I thought the style could hold and sets a high mark for others to beat.
