Presentation: On tap.

Appearance: Perfect golden. Clear. Still. To look into it is to find inner peace.

Smell: Sweet malt, very clean, with a fresh baked biscuit. Trace of floral and fruit aromas.

Taste: Rounded crispness, moderately bodied. Light, clean hop bitterness. Sweetness can be likened to English Golden Syrup, that carries through and mingles with the yeast breadiness. After the sweetness is a honey malt flavour, light and watery. Clean finish with a fine grainy flavour and subdued fruitiness.

Notes: The perfect session beer, and a light drink for those that enjoy an easy to drink, yet interesting ale.

The sweet grain and the doughy breadiness makes the base for a great golden ale. Touch of citric herbal hop and a crisp moderate body brings a balance to show this as a session style brew. This is the one I go back to when I am looking for a paler beer still holding on to lots of flavour.

probably as simple a brew as your gonna find at the cbc, but it holds form and flavour quite nicely and makes for an enjoyable, lighter beer. it pours a crisp golden colour with a tiny head leaving minimal stickiness on the glass. the smell is fruity, chalky and sweet...maybe a tad boring but nothing bad. the flavour expands upon the smell bringin a bolder yet light and balances flavour to the table. it is sweet and grainy throughout. very easy to drink and a nice to wash down a burger, wings, etc with while still maintaining a nice amount of flavour at the same time. i would happily sample this one again.

Bright golden color, as expected. Creamy white head. Bready, yeast, "sour" real beer smells. Taste was slightly sweeter than expected, but very smooth. Slight bready taste starts, but yeilds to a crisp refreshing finish. Medium to light bodied. Not their more memorable beer, but better than the other blonde ales I have had.

on cask with Halletauer hops

It's golden all right with a creamy white head, a slightly hazy clover honey blonde.

Brisk floral scent.

There's a slight spice in the hops, with that unknown something that I still can't quite put my finger on except that it says "German" to me. If I have to characterize the spice I'd call it gingery.

Bready malt with an apricot fruitiness, thats grows stonger as I drink.
Cloying honey in the finish.

Too fizzy for cask, but it's definitely sessionable, just not what I'm in the mood for at the moment.

Poured at the brewery, my first of the CBCs that I had tried. Unfortunately, not a good start. Hefe was the true winner and this one was left a bit bland on the wayside.

A: Light as can be, some head and gold color. Nothing notable. Sign of things to come.

N: If anything here, some cornlike flavors. Overall, just nothing that stood out even when looking for it.

T: A little bit of hops and a little bit of malt. I know the style is designed to lack intensity, but this one even falls shy of that. No real character to it.

M: Crisp and somewhat spicy. Some carbonation but nothing of character again.

D: Hate to be redundant, but this one was just dull and uneventful. More of a light beer that could be good for yardwork as a refresher but thats it. Go for the hefe.

Surely a session beer, but where was the flavor. Maybe it was a bad batch.

Pours a light fizzy head with crystal clear golden straw color.

Nose has light pilsner malts, straw, very light grassy hops, hint of a corn like cream malt aroma.

Taste is nice and malty, toasty, straw malts, pilsner like malts, light grassy hops, hint of yeast on the back end, hint of creamy feel, touch of a corn or maize like malt flavor, drinkable, dry and crisp finish, just a touch of bitterness.

Mouth is very light, decent carbonation and a bit creamy.

Overall good, drinkable, a nice summer beer, dry, clean, crisp, refreshing, nice toasty straw malts, hint of a creamy like taste and feel.

Tasted On-Tap 10/01/05 at the CBC in Cambridge, MA.

Clear yellow with a low white ringed head. Light spicy malty grainy aroma and flavor. Lightly sweet. Light bodied.

Not bad and worth a try but this just must not be my style ...

Very light body, hops up front and in aftertaste, this is a summer drink but it is brewed year round. Malts very minimal. Some similarities to the Tall Tale Pale Ale but less hops and lighter color.

Poured in the CBC Beergarden during the 24th Anniversary.

The initial pour produced half-of-the-glass head. The bartender repeatedly added to the liquid. Spotty lace. Straw color and clear.

Mild aroma but with a pleasant blend of malt/hop. Lots of raw grain and straw.

An excellently blended beer. Pale malt is dominant, but there's enough bitterness to give this balance. In the background, I detect citrus flavors. In the swallow, I note fresh blackberries and banana. The aftertaste is short with notes of black pepper. The mouthfeel is superior: It's rich, almost chewy, with a below average level of carbonation--unusual even for a Kölsch.

On-tap at Cambridge Brewing

A: The pour is a clear light golden straw color with a small white head.

S: Not that great of a nose for a "kolsch". Sweet cereal grains with a heavy corn aroma. The hop aromas are mild at best, just a light floral note. Some bread character to it, but not much.

T: Same story for the flavor. Heavy on the grain/corn flavors and sweetness. Minimal hops with very little bitterness (the latter of which actually is a good thing). Bland overall.

M: Light bodied with medium carbonation.

O: Just way too plain and bland. Not very good flavors or aromas that are there.

Poured on-tap at the brewpub and served in a shaker pint, the beer is a bright, pale, straw color with a filmy, clingy, frothy white head. Nose of toasted grains, cream sweetness, with floral and honey highlights. Flavors are smooth and crisp, with a honey and floral hops forward character balanced on a creamy backbone. Peppery spice at the end of the palate, with a crisp, slightly bitter and dry aftertaste. Crisp, clean finish. Very easy drinker.

Light golden appearence with small frothy head that dissapated.

Smell is grainy with some floral hints.

Taste is grainy as well, but light and flavourful, with some spice on the back of the tongue. Light bodied. Goes down easy. Refreshing.

A good choice on a hot day I would say. I didn't mean for that to rhyme.

Orange-golden color with a frothy white head. Smeared down the side of the pint glass and lingered for the rest of the night. Sweetness on the nose with a touch of hop. Same on the tongue, light, crisp, perhaps not as full bodied as it could have been. Quite drinkable.

On tap at the source

Golden with a near brilliant clarity and solid sheet of bone whites. Smells like a nice kolsch: corn, grain, soft floral character and a nice hint of grass. Taste follows through well with a solid grain bed, some flowers, some nice bitterness to dry it up a bit as the slight sweetness rolls over the tongue. Medium and maybe even a little full for the style with soft carb and a wet finish. A nice beer, wish they'd not call it a golden on their menu, because it doesn't really fit that categorically IMO.

Ah, the Kolsch. Hard to make, at least in the eyes of American drinkers. Too light? Too "BMC"-ish? We'll see...

Pale golden pour, nice non-huge head. Bubbly and clean.

Aroma is like brown--but not dry--grass, some malty sweetness. A hint of hop spice. Light, but nothing bad here

Same goes for the taste. It's malty, light. Very light cracker, unsalted, taste seems a bit bland. And the beer as a whole would be bland without some delicate touches of hops. Slight herbal spice, honeysuckle. Carbonation cleans things up and is quenching.

A good hot summer day beer

My goodness... this was a terrible beer. Its pale, Bud Lite-watery appearance is well matched to its pale, ricey, Bud Lite-watery taste. Its mild detergent smell reminds me of the summer beers from Sam Adams, and also of the days long ago when I would rise very early on a Sunday morning, say goodbye to my wife and tote several bags of laundry to the laundromat where, for two hours, I would sit and inhale the dust from old boxes of Tide and Cheer. It was bad then and it's bad now, especially in beer. Ick.
