Bright and beautiful, the brewers of Cambridge welcome spring with a fruit-forward taste that's backed with the drippy candied sweetness from malt- highlighting the fruity hop presence in a uniquely American way.

Flower Child is a bright gold, plumb bulb with the faintest of haze. A wisping white head pushes forward the vibrant bouquet that starts with mandarin orange, red grapefruit, pineapple, mango, passion fruit and lemon. Honey-like in its malt profile, the initial taste allows the fruit impressions to seem juicy, sun-ripened and fresh-picked.

As the faint caramel, firm honey and light biscuity character of pound cake slowly recede, the hops begin to take command. Trending from the racing tanginess of citrus and tropical fruit and toward dried fruit and the bitterness of their ribs, the more herbal side of the IPA come alive. Fresh-cut grass, pinecone and leaf all assist in the beer's bitter dominance as the finish draws near.

Medium-bodied, but hefty with that early sweetness, the beer dries wonderfully to a smooth and dedicated bitter taste late. It carries a dry, crisp and clean taste that begs for a high rate of consumption- perfect for the warming days of spring. Its citrusy aftertaste lingers in bitterness with all else dissolving to perfection.

Intense floral pine hop aroma. Burnt orange clear body with a one finger head that lingers for a little while. An assertive bitterness. Some caramel and malt flavor. Light sourness. Kind of disappointing.

Appearance: Pours a deep orange-gold with a small off-white head. Drops to a small cap in relatively short order. Big sticky lacing with moderate carbonation. Clumpy cap remains for the duration.

Smell: Pine needle. Some sticky resin. Pushes of orange and grapefruit as well with a solid floral component. Mildly herbal as well. Malt base is very slightly bready with some toasted elements and a slight caramelized sweetness. Bread crust. A vague notion of mint. Marmalade. Ruby red grapefruit. Pithy bitterness. Slightly grassy as well.

Taste: Bitterness hits up front but is reasonably well balanced by the malt body. Some bread crust with a mild toasted malt profile. Caramelized malts add a touch of sweetness as well. Pithy grapefruit, tangerine, orange, and a touch of mint. Some grass. Big floral component coupled with a solid herbal note. Some green wood. Warming pushes up the pine profile and throws the balance off a touch upping the overall bitterness. Borders on aspirin but never quite reaches it.

Mouthfeel: Medium body with a moderate carbonation. Mild astringency with a mildly creamy sip.

Overall: More east coast goodness.

It's always refreshing to find a balanced IPA that manages to carry a bitter profile. It's all in line and worth the pickup.

Finally got around to buying something canned from these guys.

Pours out a very golden straw color. Could be a budweiser if I didnt have a nose or tongue.

Smell emits tons of herbal hops. Fruity and flowery.

Smell is the same. This is basically hop soda. I get clementines, tangerines, kiwi, grapefruit and ganja hop flavors. Lots of flower flavors to, I dont really have a good descriptor for "flowers". Its got a bit of bitterness too. . Reminds me a little bit of Flower Power. Very different than the Pacific NW IPA flavors. Reminds me of a session IPA with more hops+booze.

Personally I like my IPA's with a bit of a malt backbone, but thats my preference.

The hoppyness Is crazy though, and I can admire this for what it is. They definitely dry hop the shiznit out of it. I also got this fresh to death (since I bought it at Redstone Liquors).

Great IPA, if you live in Mass you must give it a try.
