Drank on-tap at the Cambridge Brewing Company, Cambridge, MA during their 7th Annual Barleywine Night
Served in a cervoise

Poured a murky copper-amber color with absolutely no head and no lacing. The beer looked totally flat.

The aroma was fantastically balanced between fruity sweetness and brett funkiness. Vinous with some oaky, white wine qualities. Strong, sweet/tart berry-like notes appeared as well. Brown sugar was also quite noticeable.

The taste was amazingly smooth and complex. Sweet and fruity up front. Rich, robust malts and sugar covered plums came through strong. Vanilla notes appeared in the center. The finish was oaky and sour, but balanced. Some dry, crisp, woody notes helped rein in the sweetness.

The beer was syrupy and fuller bodied. Smooth and slick on the palate with a fine and mild effervescence.

This beer buried its alcohol prowess remarkably well. I would have never guessed this barleywine to register in at 11% ABV.

Cambridge Brewing Company's Arquebus is one of my favorite barleywines of all time and this brett-infused, chardonnay barrel-aged version brings things to a whole new level. I can only hope that Will and company continue to offer more brett-infused barleywines at future events.
