On tap during the 2012 Great Pumpkin Festival held at the Cambridge Brewing Company on 10/27/12. Served in a pint glass. Belgian White Ale brewed with Grey Ghost heirloom pumpkins.

Pours a hazed gold, with a ½ finger of bright white head. This retains with some rich edges, leaving back a sudsy looking cascade of lacing. The aroma smells of fruit and coriander, with a crisp wheat twang across the back. Ripe pumpkin character gives the overall nose here a light freshness on the edges.

You get more of those pumpkins in the taste, where they have a fresh fleshy feel that works well with the wheat. Those grains of paradise give the profile a good bit of fruitiness, while notes of coriander and orange zest linger in the finish. The mouthfeel is lighter to medium bodied, with a firm creaminess to the carbonation that blows up a bit in the mouth but gets a little easier feeling along the back.

This was a nice take on a Witbier, with the pumpkin flavor adding a fresh layer of character to this that the other flavors bounced off of well and the body was equal part lively crispness and smooth creaminess in the mouth. This was quite tasty and drinkable. I’d love to see other breweries try tackling a Pumpkin Witbier as well.
