Was looking for a good place to have a meal and some decent craft beer with the girlfriend this weekend. Decided to give this place a shot.
Easy to find location right off of the Kendall T stop and a nice atmosphere as well. We sat in the large dining room, which had a nice "public house" sort of feel. Service was quite speedy and our waitress was very friendly.
I sampled two of their beers at the restuarant - the Charles River Porter, and the Tiger Bite. The Charles River Porter is a malty, aggresively-hopped American-style porter that cannot be missed. I paired it with the blackened chicken sandwich, and was not disappointed. The sandwich was perfectly cooked and seasoned, and the beer complimented the dish well by cutting through the charred spicy flavors with a robust chocolate-like sweetness. The Tiger Bite lacked too much in character to warrant drinking by itself, but the notes of lime and lemongrass paired well with the chicken pot stickers, and the white wine yeast used makes for a pleasant dry, clean finish.
I also took home a growler of the Tall Tale Pale Ale, but was rather disappointed by it. Although the hop character was great, the beer was almost completely uncarbonated, with absolutely zero head retention. The malt character was also lacking, leaving the beer with a very light, almost watery body. I will have to try the beer again on tap to see if it was just the growler.
Despite the fact that it's quite a trek from my apartment in the Fenway, I will definately be visiting again. Solid menu, fantastic service, and $4 pints are reason enough to check this place out.
