Picked this up recently in Totowa, hoping that this would be as good as other Sierra Nevada beers that I love but just different enough that I didn't feel that I was buying the same thing in a different bottle. That's exactly what this turned out to be, as it was enjoyable enough to drink quickly but distinctive at the same time, and good enough to wonder if I'd ever have another beer with as strong a pepper presence!

Good golden pour to this, with a fairly robust head that didn't last long and a good amount of lacing to match. The appearance was a bit thinner and not as waxy as Sierra Nevada's other offerings. Some black pepper in the nose and a lot of blueberry juice in the taste. That led to a thin mouthfeel but there was a good amount of carbonation to keep this lively and not too spicy. The hops were earthy but not metallic or too strong in the citrus department, with just some orange and floral notes underneath the main flavors.

Booze? It was somewhere here too but you wouldn't know it after downing this whole bottle. Even though I split it with a friend, it would have been easy to open up another and enjoy it. Props to Sierra Nevada to going outside of their comfort zone a bit on this and the fruit balanced out the zing in this beer pretty nicely. Toss in a mild, West Coast Hoppiness and the result was a beer making me wonder what other big bottles will be available down the road from these guys. (1,429 characters)

Pours into an impy nonic a muddled burnt orange color with a tightly formed sticky 1/2 finger shite head atop, good form to the head.Aromas are a bit lighter than expected with some floral and mild citric hops along with a dryer malt base.Flavors start out dry and almost nutty with the citrusy hops coming late and into the finish, the hops are not big but provide some citric life to the beer wich otherwise is pretty tame. Not bad but not for a hophead looking for something a little "more". (491 characters)

Serving glass: Poured from bottle into Nonic pint.

Appearance: Clear, light orange with initial, frothy white head that disappears fairly quickly.

Smell: Floral and herbal notes, citrus and berry. Nice aroma at first, but almost completely vanishes after a couple minutes.

Taste: Very focused on the hops, with mostly herbal and spicy flavors. Some light grapefruit, lemon and berry. The malts are pretty light and soft. The finish is very bitter without much lingering flavor.

Feel: Medium, oily body with moderate carbonation. Very dry finish.

Overall: Very bitter IPA without enough flavor or aroma to back it up. It seems that Yakima is not a ideal candidate for a single hop beer. (690 characters)

Poured from a 22 oz. bottle into a tall pint glass. Packaged 02/04/14.

Appearance: Pours a bright golden orange with a lot of rising bubbles. Big four finger white head with good retention. Leaves a lot of lacing.

Smell: A bright, earthy, and juicy hop forward aroma with good hints of pine and citrus. Big upfront mix of floral, earthy, and herbal hops with hints of grass and spicy pine resin. Fruity citrus hints of orange, grapefruit, lemon, mango, and pineapple. Also some good hints of berries. Crisp pale malt background with hints of biscuit, grains, cracker, and yeast. Light hints of pepper. A very good and dank hoppy IPA aroma.

Taste: Like the aroma suggests, an earthy, spicy, and juicy hop forward taste with good notes of grass, pine, citrus, and spice. Upfront earthy and floral hops with good notes of grass. Spicy and dank notes of pine resin. Citrus hop notes of orange, grapefruit, lemon, pineapple, and mango. Notes of berries and some spicy pepper. Pale malt with some bready notes of biscuit, cracker, grains, and yeast. A very good hoppy taste.

Mouthfeel: Medium bodied with a moderate amount of carbonation. Spicy, oily, and pretty drying. Pretty smooth.

Overall: A very good take on a IPA. Good mix of earthy and juicy hops with a nice unique note of berries. (1,291 characters)

Clear golden honey colored with a thick beige head of dimpled foam that lingers long. Low aroma of floral hops and berries.

Flavors of hard-edged citrus upfront, some orange rind pith, with notes of honey, vanilla, fresh flowers and berries. The hops are a little rough, and I'm not sure the accompanying flavor notes complement well.

Even mouthfeel, moderately full, finishes tingly. (386 characters)
