The Snow Wit seems appropriately named in my view, while the White IPA moniker not so much. Snow Wit pours a hazy lemon orange into a large wine glass and sports an inch of nearly white foam. The pour shows decent retention and lacing in a Wit sense.

Aromas of Belgian yeast notes, some coriander spice and just a hint of wheat. Dubbing this as a Belgian IPA seems more precise than a 'white' or American IPA in my view. Alas, at 5.7% all concept of IPA is suspect, unless this is a Session White Belgian IPA that is, style pending. That aside this beer does offer a touch of sweet citrusy wheat on top of a light spicy Belgian component and is overall quite pleasant.

Taste offers more light citrus and wheat in a true Witbier sense and adds a hint of bitterness on the back end. Still to call this or have in its name, IPA, is a bit of a reach. Seems everything is an IPA today. Offers a fullish mouthfeel and a light pleasant soapy finish of nobleesque hops.

Nice but no IPA qualities in any way I know of but then a bit rich for a witbier. OK, it is rather hoppy vs. wheaty. Slightly chewy, crackery. Give me another....

Other than Torpedo, I liked this one the best of the IPA sampler.

In a pint glass it was a hazy gold color with a small tan head. There was a tiny bit of lace.

Aroma was funky, spicy, and a little flowery.

Funky taste. Cinnamon. Some pine. Melon, which I didn't get in the aroma.

Crisp, easy drinking.

I easily drank the three of these in my sampler.

12 oz bottle. Pours hazy yellow orange with a big creamy white head that retains well and laces the glass some.

The aroma is sweet bready malts, coriander and some earthy yeast and hops.

The flavor is sweet bready malts, a little fruit and coriander, earthy yeast and a good sized grassy bitterness. The mouthfeel is medium bodied with soft carbonation.

Overall, interesting white IPA - good bitterness but a kind of odd mix of earthiness, coriander, bready malts and grassy hops.

Serving glass: Poured from bottle into Tulip.

Appearance: Cloudy light orange with billowing, white head and great retention.

Smell: Citrus, tropical notes, clove, banana, coriander and pepper.

Taste: Witbier base of wheat and spices, balanced by grapefruit, mango and lemon notes from the hops. Finish is somewhat bitter, with clove, coriander, pepper and lingering citrus.

Feel: Relatively light body with high carbonation. Somewhat silky and quite dry.

Overall: This is the closest to a true "White IPA" that I have tried, with great balance between the Witbier and IPA characteristics. Refreshing and flavorful. Very nice overall.

Poured from a 12 oz. bottle into a tall pint glass.

Appearance: Pours a very hazy straw golden orange with a lot of bubbles. Big three finger white head with decent retention. Leaves a good amount of lacing.

Smell: A yeasty, juicy, and fruity Belgian IPA style aroma with good hints of hops, yeast, and fruit esters. Belgian yeast with hints of coriander, clove, and white pepper. Citrus hop hints of orange, lemon zest, mango, and grapefruit. Earthy hop hints of grass. Also some fruit esters of banana and green apple. Bready malt with hints of wheat, straw, grains, and cracker. A pretty nice aroma.

Taste: Like it smells, a yeasty, spicy, and fruity Belgian IPA taste with good notes of citrus and spice. Belgian yeast with notes of coriander, peppers, and clove. Citrus hop notes of orange peel, lemon zest, mango, and grapefruit. Earthy and floral hops with notes of grass. Fruit esters of banana and apple along with a slight bubblegum note. Pale malt with notes of wheat, grains, straw, and cracker. A pretty solid taste.

Mouthfeel: Medium bodied with a medium to high level of carbonation. Creamy, spicy, juicy, and very smooth with a drying finish.

Overall: A pretty good take on a Belgian style IPA. Good mix of yeast and fruit esters with hops.

Sierra Nevada Snow Wit

From the 4 way ipa pack

Poured into pint glass

A: Hazy and cloudy straw colored brew with fizzies floating to the top of glass.

S: Wheat. Some citrus notes but again. . . Where's the hops ?

T: Good. Nothing to get excited about but a solid wheat beer and nice flavors.

M: Easy drinking. Smooth yet just a slight crisp as with alot of wheats.

O: Snow Wit will be a nice addition to the many wheat beers that will soon flood the shelves this summer. S.N. advertises this beer as an ipa but I really don't see it as such. A little dissapointed with the lack of hop flavors so far from the 4 way.

This beer is screaming summer, hazed golden orange body with a bright white billowing head these beers are so good at looking appetizing. Head is thick and dimpled cloud like appearance with fine evenly dispersed head. Aroma has citrus, spices, coriander, soft herbal tea with earthy notes. Very much reminds me of the Kellerweiss in appearance. There's no huge hophead hop profile here the dwarf hops are here but they are overshadowed by the spice profile, let's taste the White IPA. A bit more lingering citric/tropical fruit hop flavor not much in the way of bitterness, it barely peaks onto the radar with hop bitterness, but the hop flavor is available. Well played spicy, white ale with some hoppy edges to it, remains balanced and easy to drink with so much going on I give the thumbs up to the brewmasters on this one. I'm really happy with the way this one feels on the palate, I'm used to dry bitter finishes when the spice and orange peel additions come in, but this one remains perfect on the palate not overly bitter really nice beer I'm ready for more high quality beers to be made to this caliber. Carbonation is perfect rolls along easily without being cloying or too effervescent, perfect light to medium bodied witbier with some minimal IPA notes, which in my opinion makes this White IPA a winner with balance and overall drinkability.

12 oz bottle served in a Belgian snifter (from notes).

A full pour produced a smallish but durable head and left a ring of sediment on the bottom of the bottle.

"Seven varieties of experimental dwarf hops"? No doubt, but the most striking aspect of this "IPA" for me was the complexity, spiciness and other properties from the Belgian yeast. The wheat base is also very obvious. Unusual but, after some adjustment, appealing and decently balanced mix of flavors.

Medium-light body; medium+ carbonation; dry finish.
