12oz bottle in Sam Adams glass

rating this as a "session IPA" vs an IPA

A: Dark gold, thin white head, more lace than I expected
S: Citrus and pine, reminds me of a dry-hopped version of SNPA
T: Good American hop burst up front, followed by a subtle malty/caramel sweetness.
M: Somewhat thin, but not surprising given the "session IPA" category, lots of carbonation
O: One of the better session IPAs I have had, but I am not sure I would pick this up vs. SNPA. If they could keep it close to this but shave off another .5% alcohol, then this would be a winner. Glad I tried it, but I think I would prefer a dryhopped version of the PA vs. this even with the extra alcohol.

Poured from 12oz bottle into a pint glass.

Appearance: medium golden hue with a light haze and a moderate effervescence. Head is a thick finger of frothy white foam. Not bad.

Smell: lightly sweet malt aroma with earthy, ever so slightly floral hops. Not bad, but not terribly exciting.

Taste: much like the aroma, although there's a little bit more graininess to the malt and a little bit of an astringency.

Mouthfeel: medium body with a decent carbonation and creaminess for a session IPA.

Overall: this beer isn't bad, but it really doesn't excite me.

12-oz bottle into Belgian ale glass

A - 4-finger off-white head over a body of cloudy gold/amber, moderate amount of visible carbonation

S - citrus, light malts, fruity and floral notes, peppery spice

T - light malts, lemon, pepper, slight caramel sweetness, grassy/floral notes, balanced with a dry finish

M - chewy medium body, medium/high carbonation, fairly dry

O - Nooner is a nice brew in general, but many other IPAs on the market are more interesting.

Pulled from the 4-way pack. Session IPA, and I'm wondering if this beer is all that necessary when good 'ol SNPA isn't much stronger than this. Gold color with modest head. Tangy citrus nose. The flavor impresses me with a nice grainy balance. Plenty of spicy hops to satisfy. I like this one better than most of the other session ipa's out there because the bitterness doesn't seem out of whack. Nice, I'd buy it on its own.

"There's no better way to start a lazy afternoon than with a group of friends and a few beers. Nooner IPA is a session beer that's light in body yet big in hop flavor. By using intense, whole-cone American hops in our Hop Torpedo we pack this small beer with a hefty hop punch. Nooner IPA is light in body but big in hop aroma and flavor. This session IPA delivers a dose of citrusy and grapefruit hop character from the use of whole-cone American hops." Brewed in the style of an American Session , released in 12 oz. bottles and limited draft. Available within the 4 Way IPA Variety pack.

Poured from a 12 oz. bottle to a Sierra Nevada tulip glass. Served above 55º Fahrenheit.

(Appearance) Pours an off white head of a frothy foam consistency over a medium hazy amber body. Retention is very good, lacing is light and spotty. 4.25

(Smell) Cracker malts and lightly toasted caramel malts with a fruity, grassy and floral nose, lightly peppery, grainy. 3.75

(Taste) Cracker malt with a touch of grainy caramel body. Hops generate a peppery, lemony herbal tea and floral finish with a moderate bitterness. 3.5

(Mouthfeel) Texture is peppery, faintly husky, mildly dry. Carbonation generates a soft froth for a modest carbonation. Body is medium+ for the style, medium overall. Balance is nearly even, with a slightly prevailing bitterness over a moderately sweet body. Alcohol presence is low, and off characters are minimal. 3.75

(Overall) A very tasty session ale from Sierra Nevada with a lot of hop flavor and a decent hop bite. 3.75
