A – An active cascading pour yields two full fingers worth of crisp airy khaki colored head comprised of several big chunky bubbles with a slightly rocky top… Excellent retention… Once this one starts to recede partway through the session, the froth turns richer and creamier... The color is a deep rich brown that allows just a bit of light to leak in around the edges… Mostly still with just a stray carbonation bubble here and there… A bunch of carbonation clings to the sides of the glass… Gobs of lacing cling to the sides of the glass…

S – The nose is quite subtle… It’s a near equal mix of very lightly roasted malts and slightly pungent hoppiness… The hops take on a mix of earthy and piney… A bit of sweet milk chocolate… Some very faint coffee notes… Perhaps some light graham cracker notes as well…

T – Exactly as the nose would lead you to believe… Mostly comprised of roasted malts and hops with neither dominating… The hops start faint, crescendo in the middle and the quickly retreat… Some faint coffee and chocolate notes on the finish…

M – Medium bodied… Limited carbonation… Lush with a subtle creaminess to start… Smooth throughout… Even and consistent…

D – This one drinks more like an American Porter… That’s not a bad thing, just an observation… It’s what I’ve come to expect from most Sierra Nevada offerings… Solidly above average and not much more… A decent beer worth exploring, but not something I would revisit with regularity given the increasing number of quality American Black Ales readily available in the market place…

Blindfold is not a big in your face black ipa. It does not contain a huge ABV, no long alcohol finish, no acute hop twinge. What blindfold is a well crafted, well balanced ale. Plenty of roasted malt flavor, but the blend of summit and cascade hops really brings it all together. Really well done!

Appearance - Pours deep and near black with cola brown edging and a finger's worth of khaki colored head. Good retention, resulting in a thin a layer of surface suds. Small, spotty lacing with good stick.

Smell - Notes of coffee, light chocolate and some citrus hoppiness.

Taste - Roasted coffee malt base, but this thing is mostly hops. Big citrus notes that hit on orange and grapefruit pith, along with touches of pine. Ghostly notes of chocolate. Roasted depth isn't quite where I'd like it, but the juicy orange character in the finish is nice.

Mouthfeel - Medium in body with fair, tingly carbonation. Goes down easy enough. Fairly dry finish.

Overall - Seems to have more hop character than the original "Beer Camp" variant, while still maintaining that nice roast malt base, and for me that's a plus. This is a beer I might consider buying a sixer of from time to time... if that day were to come.

I like the Blindfold.....its not as bold as the Stone SSRA but its an lighter version. It pours a dark opaque with think ecru head that is leaving a nice lacing. The scent carries pine and some citrus like hops. The taste carries IPA flare with coffee/roast/peat base. The mouthfeel is medium in body with good carbonation. Overall....solid.
