Inspired by the perennial café favorite, Double Latte combines two of the greatest things in life: good coffee and great beer. Oregon’s Ninkasi Brewing knows their way around a good cup of joe. Featuring cold-press coffee from the legendary Stumptown Coffee Roasters and a dose of milk sugar, this coffee milk stout is a rich and roasty treat.
This young-gun brewery has a locomotive charge. A rich conversation at a local bottle shop in 2005 has morphed into a Pacific Northwest staple. Named after the Sumerian goddess of fermentation, Ninkasi’s first batch of beer was Total Domination IPA and it remains a must for those with a lupulin itch.

I had this one for the first time at the festival (Beer Camp) in Chico. Dark brown pour, lighter brown head, 1/2". Aroma did not pop heavy in the coffee or latte department for me. Less of that, but the chocolate stood out a little.
Taste, wow, amazing bitterness in this one. Fucking 60ibu, wow. Kinda thick for something in a 12pack. This drinks more like a black ipa instead of a coffee stout. The lactose isn't all that big in it either, just stays more bitter than anything.
Neither brewery really known for its coffee beers. They make some good base stouts, but stout adjunct game was lacking here, and supplemented with their ipa forays it seems.

Reviewed from (very long-standing) notes. Consumed in late 2014. Poured from a 12 oz. bottle into a Cigar City Brewing pint glass.
A: Dark brown and basically opaque with fairly low visible carbonation. A thin off-white head forms and fades quickly.
S: Nice, but not huge. A rich cafe mocha aroma, both milky sweet and some restrained roast bitterness.
T: Follows the nose. Coffee and dark chocolate in near-balance. Dark roastiness with only a modest bitterness. Some lactose sweetness in the back end, and a mocha taste lasts in the hang.
M: A lighter body than it looks, but not at all watery. The alcohol is well-integrated. Fairly low carbonation sensation leads to a smooth mouthfeel.
O: Not particularly complex, no surprises, but ultimately pretty tasty.

On tap at PreFunk. Not a coffee fan, but this one is mild enough. Black and slick, small silky beige head. Coffee notes and bitterness are readily apparent, on top of decent roast grain body, semi sweet chocolate. More sweet than bitter at the finish.

Sampling a cellar temp 12 oz bottle poured into a snifter. The beer pours a deep cola brown with no light passing through the glass. A creamy tan head of 2 cm foams up and fades to a sturdy edge layer and wispy island floating in the glass. Densely packed lattice clings to the glass after each sip.
The aroma is rich roasted malt and coffee beans with a little sweet milk chocolate in the background.
The first sip reveals a fairly thick body with very fine and prickly carbonation. Flavor is roasted malt and coffee with a good dose of sweet chocolate, but the beer rolls back to all roast and coffee notes that linger long after each swallow. I dont get any hops nor any hint of alcohol on this beer but I do feel it to be a little bit of a sipper.
This is a nice roasty stout and im glad to have tried it, but there wasnt as much sweetness coming through as I had anticipated. This is a tasty beer with lots of roast.

12oz bottle poured into a tulip. The brew is black in color with a mocha head. A full wall of webby lace sticks to the glass. Smells roasted, earthy with char, coffee and almost a nuttiness. When warm, its all chocolate/coffee. The taste has coffee, bitter earth, lots of roast almost a nutty grain essence and baker cocoa. A mild citrus presence mingles with a mineral feel. This is medium bodied with modest carbonation. A decent brew that im enjoying more now than when it was fresh.
