Torpedo Pilsner is a hop-forward take on the crisp classic lager. We and the folks at Firestone Walker share a passion for New Zealand hop varietals, so we loaded our legendary Hop Torpedo with southern hemisphere hops for a fruity, floral twist on the pilsner style.
Just down the road from us in California’s Central Coast wine country, this rock star brewery has earned “Mid-size Brewery of the Year” at the World Beer Cup four times. Like us, Firestone is passionate about hops. Their skill with the ingredient shines in their Pale Series and elsewhere in a long beer lineup driven by a premier brewing team.

Duplicate listings for this beer it seems. This has more ratings so I guess I will review it here.
A- Pours from the bottle with a fairly clear, golden body. A cap forms to one finger with a frothy, foamy consistency. Head retention is fairly good as a medium thick ring deposits ring and sheets at the top with drizzle below that.
S- Aroma has both strong malts and hops. The grains provide fresh cracked Pils graininess and cereal aromas while the hops drop spicy, grassy and fruity notes. Lager yeast rounds it out.
T- Hops provide a bitter edge with spicy, herbal, floral and slightly fruit notes. Rounding this out is a base of Pils grains, crackery cereal malts, lager yeast and just a bit of sweetness.
MF- Overall the body is just beyond light. A foamy texture provides some substance as it ends with a medium-dry bitterness. Medium-high carbonation.
Hmm, I really wish I knew which NZ hop varietals were used in this brew. I get a lot of grassy, spicy hop notes and substantial bitterness but not much fruity and floral notes mentioned on the bottle. Overall it is a well made Pilsner but perhaps I had too many expectations from the hops.

Bottled 5/29/14; drank 7/16/14 @ the Yarchives.
See-through pale yellow color.
HUGE bright white head (careful pouring!); frothy lace.
Fresh bread & mild urine nose.
Thin mouthfeel with a sharp carbonation bite.
Mild bread notes, hints of urine & a crisp hop bite finish. Drinkable but hardly an argument for the style.

Reviewed from (very long-standing) notes. Consumed in late 2014. Poured from a 12 oz. bottle into a Fat Head's pint glass.
A: Pours a very clear pale straw color. Forms a big white fluffy head with average retention atop fairly low visible carbonation.
S: Pilsner malts with just a touch of sulfurous quality. Light hop oils. Not much else that I can find, and a light aroma overall.
T: A pretty standard pilsner. Light pilsner malts, two-row malts. Minimal sulfur (though there is a touch) and the expected clean lager flavors. Light resin and floral hops, like a small pine shrub, , plus a crisp lemon rind citrus. Lightly bitter in the hang.
M: A light body with almost no alcohol presence. More carbonation sensation than the appearance suggested.
O: Drinkable, and reasonably tasty for style. But nothing to excite me nor anything that I'd look for again.

Hazy pale yellow, tall stiff white head with gobs of lacing. Aroma dominated by lemon zest and sugar cookies. Taste is sharply bitter with lemon zest. Mouthfeel is very soft. Doesn't seem very Pilsner like.
