The Asheville area is a brewing hotspot nestled in the mountains of North Carolina. Tater Ridge was brewed by something of a craft beer super group made up of members of the Asheville Brewers Alliance. We’re fortunate to call these passionate and talented brewers our neighbors, and we hope this unique ale will be the first of many collaborations to come.
We’ve made plenty of new friends in the nearly 30-strong Asheville Brewers Alliance (ABA) since we started brewing in North Carolina. Two of whom—John Stuart of Green Man Brewery and Luke Dickinson of Wicked Weed Brewing—led this collaboration recipe and work tirelessly to bring creativity and a deep-seated love of locally made craft beer to the Appalachian Mountains.

mouthfeel - good for style
Overall left me flat, aroma was hard to get past.

Bottled 6/4/14; drank 7/16/14 @ the Yarchives.
Semi-opaque plum color.
Khaki head; strong lace.
Mild malt sweetness & mild citrus nose.
Medium mouthfeel.
Mild malt sweetness & a hint of smoke up front; slight pickle juice finish, which grows stronger as this warms.
The advertised sweet potatoes barely register on the lips. Not very good.

Kind of a brownish auburn dark red color to it, beige-ish head on the top, 1/2". Aroma was devoid of aroma outside of a little bit of sweetness. Weird.
Taste was an interesting mix of maltiness, the sweet potatoes cut both sweet and dry. There is an earthy aspect of the beer, similar to the malt toasting on a red ale. Marshmallow like cream and sweet and then dry. Crazy the evolution from first to last sip. This one lay somewhere between the maltiness of a bock and a scotch ale. Bitterness is there, making it further difficult to classify the beer. I think I was expecting this to be a little more smooth, the ample amount of carbonation and bitterness was strangely placed. The alcohol seemed plenty pronounced too.
Seems more like a Dogfish Head beer to me. Not interested in it again.

Reviewed from (very long-standing) notes. Consumed in late 2014. Poured from a 12 oz. bottle into a Cigar City Brewing pint glass.
A: Dark reddish brown, quite hazy. A thin cream-colored head that fades quickly, and fairly low visible carbonation.
S: A small amount of toasted malts. That's it - literally almost no aroma. Weird.
T: About the same as the nose. A mild maltiness, and then...nothing. Tasteless. Not bad - literally tasteless.
M: Medium-bodied, with good carbonation sensation and no alcohol flavor to speak of.
O: I find it difficult to rate a beer whose flavor is nearly absent. This can't be what they were going after, but there just wasn't much here to go off of.

On tap at PreFunk. Clear brown with nice creamy head. Dry roast malt, peat, chalky mouthfeel. Very earthy, chewy. Right in the wheel house for the style.

12oz bottle into a tulip. The brew appears a dark chestnut color with creamy silky tan cap that fades leaving patchy lace. It smells sweet and malty like raison and almost a hint of chocolate and minerals. This tastes malty sweet with fruity raison and some starch/earth. A mild herbal bitterness and minerals with a toasty aftertaste. It boasts a medium body with ample carbonation. Overall a decent brew.
