Notes/Commercial Description:
The Asheville area is a brewing hotspot nestled in the mountains of North Carolina. Tater Ridge was brewed by something of a craft beer super group made up of members of the Asheville Brewers Alliance. We’re fortunate to call these passionate and talented brewers our neighbors, and we hope this unique ale will be the first of many collaborations to come.

We’ve made plenty of new friends in the nearly 30-strong Asheville Brewers Alliance (ABA) since we started brewing in North Carolina. Two of whom—John Stuart of Green Man Brewery and Luke Dickinson of Wicked Weed Brewing—led this collaboration recipe and work tirelessly to bring creativity and a deep-seated love of locally made craft beer to the Appalachian Mountains.

Home sweet home with the Asheville brewers, Sierra Nevada's collaboration is a bit of a peace offering with the taste of down home cookin'. With the malty-sweet "Wee Heavy" base and sweet potato additions, a sense of tradition and invention gives the taste as much charm as it does quirkiness.

Its garnet-brown austere preludes a sweet toffee scent and a creamy taste. With peps of toasted pecan, chocolate and molasses, the malt character is front and center on the early palate.

With the slightest tinge of starchy sweetness, any vegetable additions are easily dismissed as true malt texture and sweetness. Light blackcurrant and cherry weave into the toasted sweetness for mild vinous complexity along with the slight earthen peat of scotch ale.

Medium-dry to close, the beer's sweetness and rich textures are persistent and the beer squimishly develops the complex dryness of authentic versions. Its light warmth is accompanied by mild evergreen and rye bite in a long-lasting finish.

Pours dark, hazy reddish color with a finger with foamy head. Head retention is good. Lacing is mild. The aroma was good at first pour but was hard to decipher after starting to drink. There was a mildly boozy, sweet aroma. Some caramel. Possible sweet potato. Smooth caramel malty taste with sweet potato at the end and aftertaste, mild bitterness. The beer is actually tasty. I just wish there was a little more of a hop bitterness to it. Not very strong for a scottish ale either.

Pours into my Isle of Arran glass a deep rich amber with a full one and a half finger off white head that slowly settles into a frothy mass leaving broken chunks of lace as it does. Some spiced sweet potatoes show thru in the nose along with some brown sugar and malty cakiness. Not overly sweet on the palate with sweet potatoes being quite noticeable in the back end, pretty rich in maltiness.I think I like this a little more than most,it has subtle nuances that I catch,a good beer.

Poured from the bottle into a snifter, the beer was a garnet color. There was a small tan head that left a tiny bit of lace.

Sweet aroma, very sweet. Caramel.

Taste of caramel and toffee. Some bread.

A very sweet mouthfeel, probably a little sweeter than I wanted.

I probably would enjoy this beer more in the winter, and not when it's 90 degrees outside.

12 oz bottle. Pours deep ruby brown with a medium rocky off-white head that retains well and laces the glass some.

The aroma is subdued - sweet and slightly smoky roasted malts.

The flavor is sweet sugary caramel malts with some peaty smoke and a medium bitter finish. It has an odd chemical note in the aftertaste. The mouthfeel is medium bodied with slightly sharp carbonation.

Overall, I don't get any sweet potato. Just an OK scottish.

Not a ton going on, beer was solid but not what I expect from a Scotch Ale. Didn't have a ton of malt to it
