Interesting one from SN. Not at all what I expected, but that's good in a way. This reminds me very much of Pilsner Urquell. SN IPA is a bit better looking and has a hoppier bite in the finish, but other than that, they're really close.
Pours a nice orangeish/amber with a billowy white head and decent lacing. Quite a looker. Aroma is coarse grain and straw, with some bitter notes and a "skunky" character, that I usually associate with green bottled European lagers. Odd for a west coast IPA.
Flavor follows suit with an initial bitterness, coarse grain, a hint of malty sweetness, and a bone dry finish. Also pick up some incense (not that I eat incense, it's all in the olfactories.) Again, very unusual for a west coast IPA (not that that's a bad thing.)
Mouthfeel is nothing exciting, but adequate enough. Drinkability is pretty high, with the dry finish and easy, lager-like disposition.
I wouldn't actively seek this one out again, but I appreciate Sierra Nevada trying something different than the average citrusy west coast IPA.

A nice copper big with a big head. It has pine and oaky smells. You can't smell the hops in the aroma, but you can once you taste it. Great IPA for someone who isn't into IPA's and who doesn't enjoy that hoppy taste. Goes down smooth, with a pleasant aftertaste.
