750ml bottle. Poured out a dark burgundy color with a small, khaki-colored head of foam. It smelled of dried dark fruits, cherry, roasted malt and toffee. Sweet maltiness with toffee, cherry, fig and plums.

750ml bottle. Caged and corked, cork comes out with a definite pop. Stamped bottling date is '021616'.
Dark brown colored body, with cherry red back lit highlights. Small off white head reduces to a partial cap and high ring. Leaves behind some rings of lacing.
Soft aroma with sweet candy, dark fruit, malts, and woody.
Taste is sweet with dark fruit (cherry, raisin, and prune), cocoa malts, Belgian yeast and woody.
Fuller mouth feel, with a slightly syrupy sweet texture. Very amenable to swirling around in the mouth. Very good carbonation.
Very enjoyable mouth feel, with the taste more expressive than the smell. Flavors are a blend of sweet cocoa and dark fruit, along with a base of woodiness and yeast. All components work together as a blend rather than one flavor rising at one point and another one at a later point.

Pulled from the cellar, bought in a gift pack several years ago.

A - Dark brown body, largely opaque, with some subtle red highlights and transparency around the edges. A head that pours moderate but quickly fades to a rim at the glass edge. Lacing is small bubbled and forms up in patches.

S - Strong hit of booze, hints of wine and barrels, fruit and Belgian ester-based goodness.

T - Follows that nose, with a base of malt and yeasty goodness, followed quickly with bright cherry notes particularly as the beer begins to warm, a close more tart joined with a bit of wood and bitterness.

M - Extraordinarily jaunty, mild carbonation and medium weight, acidic sprightliness on the tongue, and a lingering touch on the tongue after the finish.

O - A well-built Quad with great use of fruit and great feel. Loved it.

Box Set Three Of Three

750ml
Caged/Corked
ABV: 9.2%

Poured into a goblet a pretty nice translucent dark brown color, very nice carbonation, with a very nice thick/creamy one-finger plus light tan head, which also leaves a really nice medium size island/oil slick and some nice sticky lacing behind. The nose is malty, yeasty, with a nice touch of dark fruit complex (cherries, figs, raisins, plums, grapes). The taste is pretty nice, malty, yeasty, with a pretty nice dark fruit complex (cherries, figs, raisins, plums, grapes). Medium body, ABV hidden very well, nice little dry/bitter finish. Overall, a very nice brew.

L) Pours a lovely dark mahogany that really does not allow for much light infiltration. A creamy off-white head sticks around for a bit, but does not linger as long as hoped. Minimal lacing.

A) Bread and Belgian candies. Nothing too complex in the aroma. The cherries present are surprisingly dark and robust in nature, I was expecting light and crisp.

T) The cherries are definitely in the forefront, but they are more of a dark pitted fruit than an acidic zest. This works very well with the style. The malt is typical quad profile, lots of candy and light caramels with deep dark fruit.

F) Medium-Low carbonation with a silky mouth-feel. Lovely to the last sip.

O) Quite a nice cherry quad, I am thoroughly enjoying the rustic feeling I am getting drinking it paired with a turkey pot pie.

Best SN Abbey Ovila I had. Very delicious stuff. I aged mine for about 18 months and although haven't had it fresh I'd say this is it's peak yet it could go another year if it were to happen. A perfect 4th of the July weekend beer poured into a wide glass goblet. The look is a dark chocolate, black cherry, Dr. Pepper Blue Chimay appearance. Smell is of cherry and smoked malt yet subtle scent.

The taste is similar to blue chimay but not as good imo but damn close. It's like blue chimay with cherries added and touch more of sweetness. Besides cherry and black cherry flavoring there is tasting notes of chocolate, prunes, plums, raisins, malt, Dr. Pepper, and mild booze. Medium mouthfeel and quite drinkable yet better as a slow sipper and sit back to enjoy. A very well done brew.

Nice reddish brown, dark beer with a thin and quickly dispersing tan head. Faint cherries and cocoa in the aroma. The taste has the cherries, cocoa some raisin. The beer is a bit thin for me. Pretty good beer.
