A true and even dark dark brown colouration that appears thick and has a polished sheen. There is a foaming and creamy head that sits steadily, and holds well through those first mouthfuls.
Initially plenty of malt smells, but unusual not just the sweet caramel malts often found in Porters, but also a more mature aged malt, with a slight hint of oak. There is also a fine hint of chocolate to give it one of the classic modern Porter influences.
Interestingly it is the chocolate that comes in first on the taste. The chocolate taste is strong and slightly bitter, almost like cooking chocolate. Given the beautiful mature aromas this beer was giving off, this seems just too bold and immature. Soon more of a caramel tries to cover this up and you are left with a mild to bitter aftertaste.
Only a medium body and not as much stickiness in the mouth as you might find in other Porter. Carbonation starts off a little sharp but settles easily.

A - The pour is of a rich dark brown, topped with light tan foam.
S - Sweet malt as well as dark-roasted coffee and earthy aromas. Marmite twiglets.
T - Quite mellow on the palate. The roasted malt flavours are quite delicate and mix nicely with the caramel sweetness from the nose. A lightly hopped finish with a slightly metallic sheen.
M - Medium-bodied, smooth, easy-drinking. Balanced carbonation. Well-rounded
O - A solid session porter, but not as powerful and tasty as my favoured go-to porter; black butte.
