24oz bottle poured into hotel rocks glass. Clear amber with a finger of white head. Good retention and lacing. Aroma is grapefruit, caramel, mint, pear. Taste is slightly sweet fruit and caramel followed by herbal, citrus rind, and aspirin bitterness. Medium body, sticky texture, moderate carbonation, dry medicinal finish.

While this IPA is a little over-the-top on the hops and bitterness it manages to retain an excellent balance of mouth-feel and aroma. The taste is a bit of an acquired taste for anyone not already conditioned for the more extreme IPA styles. Those of us that do like the hop punch in the face, this beer certainly does satisfy. It is a great example of the power of Magnum hops to bitter.

Dark amber and orange with a finger of light tan head. Head is foamy and soapy in appearance with long, stringy lacing all the way through. Excellent head retention, and a smaller film will remain until the beer is finished. Floral aromas of citrus, pine and hops right off the bat. Some semblance of grapefruit and lemon, among other citrus fruits. Tastes much more bitter than nose suggests, with more emphasis on the pine. Grapefruit notes become stronger throughout aftertaste. Difficult to guage alcohol over a strong dry finish. Mouthfeel indicates strong carbonation and a slick, viscous sliding over tongue. Sip seems to expand in my mouth, leaving a smooth residue that lingers for several minutes. Overall, beautifully made DIPA that will satisfy any hophead. This is a very sessional hop explosion and goes down a little too easy; try to not let these get you in trouble. I am surprised how often I find these available for about a dollar per beer, even in Western Montana. When I do, I will buy them in bulk and fill my closet. I know with their high hop and alcohol content, they won't lose much fidelity after their supposed expiration date.

My first go round with this beer, great taste, not quite as good as good as Dog Fish Head 90 minute, but smoother flavor than 21st amendment Brew Free or Die,will defiantly drink again.
