Poured from the can into a Turbinator style glass.

A: It is clear and an active brew with a two finger rocky, white head. Lacing is minimal, legs are not present due to moderate ABV. Crystal clear, really nice translucence.

S: Typical lager smells, a little lemony lemongrass, earthy yeast and mild malts with a little of the pale euro funk.

T: Lager smooth, hair euro-skunk due to that classic hop profile. Lemongrass, earth, skunk, Irish cream at the edges. Bitter at swallow causes pleasant dryness.

M: Moderate and pleasant in every way. Slightly creamy hit and then slick on palate leading to a lightly bitter finish.

O: Yeah, this is really darned good. Every part of this contributes to a whole that is more than the sum. A very good expression of the light Czech/lager style.

Presentation: Very attractive eye-catching can with a great graphics in the SNBC style and tradition. Can give a bit of brewery info and ABV info.

Appearance: A semi aggressive pour from its 12oz can into a 14oz Pokal led a 2 finger white airy light head atop a clear bright golden yellow beer. Head retention was a solid 2min 55sec before fading to a thick ring and thin coating. With good lacing.

Smell/Aroma: Smell is of floral hops with hints of white wine and sweet honey. Hits of pale malts also hit the palette.

Flavor/Taste: Taste of grainy malts and floral hops on the front end with a spicy hop midpoint that turns slightly herbal. Has a very nice grainy malt finish.

MouthFeel/Drinkability: Light and refreshing with a crisp clean mouthfeel that finishes a bit dry. Very drinkable.

Overall/Comments: A truly refreshing and drinkable session beer that would go down easy on a hot summer day. Very tasty and well put together. Try it. Classified as a Czech Pilsner @ 5% ABV. Consumed 10/14/13.

Poured from the can. Two and half fingers of head on a clear, straw colored body. Lots of bubbles. Looks great.
The aroma is full of bright lemon.
The taste is moderate bitterness with a touch of pear and a clean finish. Simple but great.
The texture is crisp with a good fizz to it.
Wonderful.

This canned pilsner "summer lager" is gracefully contained by its metal can. Running my tongue along the cold, multicolored label, I detect traces of aluminum. Popping the pull-back tab produces a brief, intense mist with the brief sound of an excited porpoise.

The actual beer was good.

Big thanks to Kegatron for gifting me with a can of this. Poured into a Sierra Nevada snifter, the brew appears a perfectly clear golden yellow with streaming bubbles of carbonation that support a finger of white head. As the cap fades, it leaves patches of stringy lace on the glass.

The aroma is sweet with a scent of biscuit-like grain. Enough hops are there to provide almost a lemony fresh citrus quality blended with grass and an herbal component. The aromatics blend back and forth between sweet and grainy and herbal with hops. A nice balance with a soft touch of fruity alcohol as it warms up.

The taste is sweet with a flavor of cereal-like grain that is slightly bready. A bit of fruit indication like lemon blends into some herbal and grassy hops that provides enough bitterness to contrast. As the brew warns up, a hint of sulfur emerges mingling with the hops and sweetness.

This is a medium to lighter bodied brew with a modest to lively amount of carbonation. This brew is light, crisp, refreshing and overall clean and enjoyable. Certainly a summertime offering worth checking out that is fitting and quite enjoyable.

A - Bright golden body, white head has good retention and lace.

S/T/M - Just a solid example of the style. Bright grassy, herbal hops backed up by a bready malt backbone and finishing crisp and clean with a bit of spice. Light to medium body, lively carbonation, smooth and easy drinking with plenty of flavor.

It is a lot more consistent in taste than that of the bottle. You can definitely experience more of a full flavor, whereas the bottled version is a lot more mellow. I've had this beer on draft as well, and being that I am not a fan of lagers, I was also not a fan of this beer in any of its forms. I find that the taste is too bitter, as if licking a mahogany wood post. I just can't grasp the bitterness and wish that there was more to offer in terms of its flavor.

This showed up recently at The Fridge and went into my fridge awaiting furtherance of The CANQuest (TM). Reviewed 08-14-2013.

It was a long day of paranoia and I was jonesing for a beer, so I executed a quick Crack and an inverted Glug, resulting in two fluffy, foamy fingers of French Vanilla-colored head with good retention. Color was a sunshine yellow with NE-quality clarity. SRM = 4 to 5. Nose had a great Noble hop grassiness underlain with a light biscuit maltiness. Mouthfeel was thin-to-medium and man, this really hit the spot! The Saaz hops commingled beautifully with the malt to create a light, easy drinking lager in the form of a Pils. Finish was crisp, dry, refreshing and I may have found a new CANdidate for the summer cooler.

My original bottle review from 07-07-2005 with scores of 4.0; 2.5; 3.0; 4.0 and 3.5 follows:

This poured with a decent white head, but it just evaporated to wispiness. I had a light malt smell, but even that was tough to discern. It had a nice tang in the mouth, but no taste that really jumped out. The finish was lightly grainy, not so much of malt, but more like wheat, or (heaven forbid) corn. It just reminded me of being out in the fields behind my maternal grandparents' house as a kid. It was a decent beer, but I'd like something with a bit more flavor, even in the summer.

Appearance
Clear, sparkling golden yellow
Smell
A bit of hops to the nose, slight honey sweet scents, minor malt
Taste
Light hops and of course that pilsner presence, clean finishing
Overall
Definitely a good beer, a nice change as well from the IPAs, torpedos, bigfoot, and celebration ales. Good for the summer, light and clean. I don’t always thirst for a pilsner, but when I do this is a favorable choice.

12 oz bottle poured into a Sierra Nevada imperial pint.
5.0% ABV, 28 IBUs

A - A constant stream of little carbonation bubbles rise through the center of this brilliantly clear golden yellow beer, sustaining a sparkly, foamy white that, after some time, leaves chunky, sudsy bubbles on the glass.

S - Grainy pale and smooth pilsener malts give Summerfest a fresh and classic pilsener nose, kissed by a touch of honey sweetness and hints of Saaz noble hops, which add to the beer's authenticity with slightly floral components on the finish.

T - Soft floral hops impart light spiciness and envelop the pilsener malts, gently balancing the mild sweetness that lingers in the background of this brew for a simple but true and enjoyable pilsener flavor.

M - Medium-high in carbonation, Summerfest is a light, crisp beer with a soft, clean body and delicately bitter finish. True to style, this is one easy drinking brew!

O - Sierra Nevada's nod to the Bohemian Pilsener is damn near spot-on with an overall crisp, clean drinkability and classic, simplistic flavor of honey-kissed malt and floral, lightly spicy hops balanced to perfection!

Big thick white head slowly dies above a clear golden colored ale.

Very light citrus hops and floral aroma and the taste resembles the aroma to a T.

A clean tasting medium bodied beer with a slight dry aftertaste that keeps a bit of the taste of the the beer hanging around.

Seems like this would be a pretty good beer to have on the beach on a hot summers day, to bad it's in a bottle and that would be a very irresponsible thing to do.

12 ounce bottle into lager glass, bottled on 4/4/2013. Pours lightly hazy golden straw color with a 1 finger dense white head with great retention, that reduces to a nice cap that lingers. Spotty soapy lacing clings down the glass, with a good amount of streaming carbonation retaining the head. Aromas of lemon zest, pear, apple, grape, floral, grass, cracker, bread, light pepper, herbal, and yeast earthiness. Nice and pleasant aromas with good balance of malt, hop, and yeast ester notes; with solid strength. Taste of lemon zest, pear, apple, cracker, bread, floral, grass, light pepper, herbal, and yeast earthiness. Light earthy bitterness on the finish; with lingering notes of light fruits, cracker, bread, floral, grass, light pepper, and herbal earthiness on the finish for a good bit. Very nice balance of malt, hop, and yeast ester flavors; with good robustness and no cloying flavors after the finish. Medium carbonation and body; with a smooth and moderately crisp mouthfeel that is good. Alcohol is very well hidden with minimal warming present after the finish. Overall this is a very good pilsner style. All around well balanced flavors; and very smooth and crisp to drink. A nicely enjoyable offering.

I really like the way this beer sets up as the color is a radiant sunny yellow with a billowing cloud like head. Feels like Summer!

The scent is wheaty with a bit of malt, rice and cracker.

The flavor is crisp and refreshing with a lot of wheat malt, a tinge of lemon and a rice or adjunct finish.

The feel is a summer time quencher with an easy drinking crispness. It also takes on the flavors orange or lemon very well.

This may not be the beer geeks dream but it's a good sessionable beer.

Appearance- Clear straw yellow, full head. Looks extremely clean and pure, got my mouth salivating. Glass had a pretty little sweat going on.

Nose-Some pale honey kissed malts drift through the nostrils first. Followed by your typical hops in a pilsner. Clean and subdued floral element, almost like "sweet straw".

Taste- Some spicy kettle-hops , but not too bitter. Malt lingers on the back end with a sweetness of honey and some

Mouthfeel- Extremely fine carbonation, very slick. Became too watery too quickly though, could have coated the mouth for a more drawn out sip. Went down very easily though.

Overall- Very drinkable, hits the spot as most decent/good pilsners are. Flavor profile was nothing to beat home about, but definitely a beer I'd bring over as a gateway for those among us who are a little less adventurous.

Poured from a 12oz bottle into a plastic draft beer cup.

Appears a hazy golden straw color. A thin cream white head that retains well.

Has a decent malty lager smell. A little grassy or floral as well, but not to much going on.

Taste has a nice subtle sweetness from the malts followed by a floral hop taste that is not strong but enough ther to give this beer a good finsh.

The mouthfeel is spot on. Not to thin, well carbonated, and sits on the tounge just long enough to enjoy the hops used.

Overall i would have to say this is one of the better Pilsners I have had in a while, but that is coming from a small number.

12 oz 2013 bottle served in a lager glass.
Pours golden with excellent clarity and a massive amount of carbonation bubbles. The carbonation level is high, but seems appropriate for style and is softly prickly. Light body. Very durable white head.
Quite true to style, partly due to the use of Saaz hops.
A quality pils that would fly in CZ.

12 oz bottle poured into a pint glass

Appearance: Pours a golden yellow color with a finger and a half of white head that quickly dissolved into a thin lacing of foam that covered the entire top of the beer.

Aroma: Malty with some slight citrus notes as well as some floral notes of freshly cut grass and clover.

Taste: Like the aroma this beer is malty, with some slight citrus notes finished by floral hop bitterness, that’s balanced with some sweetness from candied sugar.

Mouthfeel: crisp and clean with some good carbonation to tickle the taste buds.

Overall: Nicely crafted beer with some good citrus and hops that provide a good, refreshing beer, but there are other summer beers that I like much better.

S: Aroma is crisp. Pilsener malts is most dominant. A little bready malt and a light blend of floral and noble hops.

T: The taste...I'm not so sure about. It's light and crisp. Lighter notes of toasty malts with a little apple juice in the mix. Some light floral hops on the finish.

A - Clear light straw yellow color with white 1.5 finger head. Small bubbles float to the top from bottom. Minimal lacing.

S - Grainy, floral, straw, with light hops. Nice sweet malt, with a touch of lemon zest.

T - Pilsener malt with a light floral and spice hop addition. Pick up some sweetness and just a bit of lemon zest to round it off.

M - Smooth, yet crisp body. It is nice an light for the summer, but right on for the style. I was able to drink this very quickly as it was refreshing.

Usually I'm a pretty big Sierra Nevada guy...but they could've been more imaginative here for a summer. The pilsner is good as far as pilsner are concerned. Straw golden color, goes down very easy, no frills. There is a very clean finish that is nice and makes it easy to have with food. Just somewhat boring.

Pale yellow body, good carbonation, thick and creamy white head. Softly sweet smell with light ester notes; light bread hints. Light and crisp feel with a slightly tangy flavor all balanced with a nice, sprightly hop bitterness. Clean, dry finish.

A really nice summer lager and thirst quencher. The hop bitterness aspect really shines through yet the light grain flavors hold their own in the background. This all makes for a well-balanced, easy drinking beer.

A - Dark amber, kind of a honey color; borders on translucent; decent finger-plus white head. No significant lacing, but head retention was nice.

S - A little floral hop coming off the nose, and some esters. Not a ton to appreciate. Sweetness and malts, but obviously some bright hops are put into this lager.

T - Definitely a sweet, slightly hoppy pilsner. Minor caramel malts, some honey. It's a bit of an odd mixture in a pilsner, although certainly not bad.

M - Light, although a little more full than a typical pilsner. No sense of booziness whatsoever, and very minor carbonation sting.

O - This is a good Summer drink, but I can't see preferring it over a Hefe (for my palate). It just strikes me as a little off: not a normal lager, some ale-like flavorings, but a pilsner format. It's a good combination, but not my favorite.

On what has been the hottest day of the 2013 summer so far, I reached for one of my favorites from last summer, Sierra Nevada Summerfest, their take on a German and/or Czech pilsener. Summerfest lager pours a wonderful straw gold color with about a finger of bubbly white head and little lacing on the glass. Sharply contrasting the other wheat-based summer ales that I've been drinking of late, Summerfest smells of floral hops. The kinda weak smell is more than made up for with the wonderful floral and spicy taste. I couldn't really detect any of the sweet malts that Sierra Nevada says the beer has, but could easily taste the floral hops followed immediately after by a slight yet noticeable spiciness that adds a unique kick to this summer lager. As far as the taste goes, it kinda reminded me of a weak rye beer with hops and then some spiciness, like a poor man's version of Harpoon's Rye IPA (though obviously this is neither a rye beer nor an IPA, just making an observation.) Very drinkable and refreshing, Summerfest is pretty carbonated and is quite easy drinking; it's very possible to polish off a few of these quickly, so be thankful that at only 5% ABV, you won't be in too much trouble after a few. This is definitely one of my favorite summer beers and ranks right up there with all the beers I've tried. Cheers!
