Brewed to celebrate 27 years of the pioneering of the craft beer movement, this beer is an American Style IPA with a distinct Sierra Nevada twist; a generous amount of Cascade hops to produce a big fragrant pine and citrus hop aroma, which is balanced by the sweetness of two row pale and caramel malt, and finished with additional Cascade dry-hopping for good measure. Anniversary Ale is a medium-bodied, well-hopped ale that finishes with a slight malt sweetness. Released August 2007, 2008, and 2009; same beer.

Another fine offering from the folks at Sierra. All these years laters, I still think that if you are drinking Sierra, the beer you are drinking is a great representation of that particular style. Sometimes extremely impressive, but never disappointing. All their beers are good baseline beers.
As for the anniversary ale. I have had this on draft and enjoyed it enough, but tasted not quite IPA-y enough for me, maybe even less so then their flagship pale. On cask at the Blind Tiger earlier this week, it was outstanding.
The appearance was slightly cloudy with a nice golden hue.
The smell actually had some hints of nutmeg, but not quite edging over into a holiday brew. The taste was like a good pale ale with a slightly nutmeg finish. It maybe was a little bit thin in the mouthfeel, but this was a good beer overall. Nice job, Sierra.

350 ml bottle, 2008 vintage, courtesy of Cardinal Pub & Bar, Stavanger. ABV is 5.9%. Orange to amber colour, big off-white head with an orangey hue. Lovely aroma of Cascade hops, piney and grapefruity notes. The flavour is distinctly hoppy throughout, lots of pine needles, grapefruity bitterness in the finish, very bitter aftertaste. Hints of caramel malts, but the beer is not too sweet. A nice and very drinkable IPA.

Backlog from 2009. 12 oz bottle. 2009 vintage. Smells sweet. Pours a thin head with a beautiful copper hue. Pleasant bitterness juxtaposes with a creamy mouthfeel to produce an exceptional taste experience. Without a doubt one of the best IPAs I’ve ever had.

Ha wore my tshirt of this the other day, might as well log one of those retired reviews from yesteryear.
This one was one of the lighter ipas Sierra Nevada has been involved in. Lighter than the pale ale, instead of an amber color like SNPA, this was a lighter yellow affair. Still has nice 1" carbonation and whatnot. The nose wasn't huge as I think they still just used Cascade for the minimal by our standards today dry hopping.
Taste still reveals caramel, but not as much as some of their other hoppy offerings. Very drinkable throughout, its pretty standard stuff for them. Moderate bitterness, lots of C hops in the boil, some after that, good dry toasted pale malt base, grassy effects.
