Poured from one of the many 12 oz bottles I've bought of this brew.
Pours with a nice foamy, slightly lumpy head that stays around for lots of lacing. Color is a red-copper that's very clear, no yeast floating around here. Smell is slightly underpowered, but a good hop smell with some earthy malts in the background. Taste is very good. A good hop kick right away, but nothing crazy, balanced with nice, dry, earthy malts, and finishes with just the right amount of lingering bitterness. Mouthfeel is very dry and smooth, highly drinkable.
Leave it to Sierra Nevada to create a brew that's nearly perfectly balanced and good in every way. An instant favorite of mine, I think I may have to go buy a case so I don't run out too quickly, a definite buy again and again and again, as long as I can actually. I think part of the problem we have right now with American IPAs is that everyone thinks that shoving as much hops as possible into a beer is what makes it better, which, as far as I'm concerned, just isn't the case. This beer isn't a crazy-exploding-with-hops IPA, but it has near perfect balance and is really easy to drink. Not that I don't love a good hop explosion IPA now and then, but this Anniversary Ale is one that I'll come back to again and again, it's what I'd call the perfect anytime beer.
