Every year it seems that either Sierra Nevada introduces another great special or seasonal ale, or the distribution of these great beers has finally reached the Inland Empire. Either way, it works out for me in the end.
This ale is really good. The smell was something I didn't expect; probably due to the classic English malt. Sweet by itself, it spoke of a world gone by when English ales were more sweet than bitter. Really interesting and really good.
The hops balance the malt and the label is pretty true in describing how they mixed English hops (slightly more metallic in my opinion) with American hops (citrus, piney, herb-ish) to produce a complex hop profile. The hops are pretty prevalent as with most beers from Sierra Nevada, but it balances out the malt very well.
