This brew pours an orange-hued slightly hazy deep gold in the glass with an off-white head. I was expecting something darker, copper colored, with maybe a touch of roasted barley but there's obviously none here. The smell is of spicy hops, a definite departure from the normal piney, grapefruit PNW hops SN is known for. Bready malt shows up as the brew warms up. The spicy hops aroma reminds me of Anchor Steam, perhaps it's the same or a similar variety.
Malt is subdued and this one remains bitter throughout taste and finish. It tastes lighter and seems more session-able than its 5.9% ABV would have you believe. It's very clean overall, like they used their standard ale yeast. A fruitier British strain would've made this more interesting.
Not my favorite SN brew, but it's a solid effort. Kudos to SN for branching out.
