I saw this beer at the downtown Spec's yesterday while I was there stocking up on Le Terroir. This was the last bottle, so I figured that I would "rescue" it. Let's see what their "Fresh Hops" taste like as this is a fresh beer.
Appearance: Pours a very slightly cloudy orange golden color with a small 1/8" head of off white bubbles after a careful pour. There are numerous bubbles rising to maintain the head at this height even over a minute after the pour there is no noticeable difference in the height...or it may have grown slightly. There is some attractive lace-looking lace on the glass after drinking.
Aroma: Of course the hops are cutting through, but it isn't with so much of the fresh oils to make the beer come across as oily or chalky in the nose. There is also a very noticeable sweet and slightly toasty malt thing going on here that is nice and seems well blended. The aroma is getting more grassy and slightly more earthy as it warms up.
Taste: The flavor is also pretty hoppy, but not extremely over-hopped to ruin the drinkability of the beer. In fact, the hops actually let you definitely taste the malty sweetness pretty much the whole way through the profile. The finish is definitely balanced toward the bitter, but it is well blended with the water. The carbonation is really a pretty big player overall in this beer, though it is subtle. There is quite a bit of mouthfeel to this beer, and even looked like it poured like a pretty thick beer, so I guess they used a lesser attenuating than their regular California #1 so that the beer would be more chewy. The alcohol is well reserved and I am surprised that it is as big as it is as I am half-way through the bottle and don't notice any warming or anything.
Opinion: Overall this is a very well presented IPA no matter how you look at it. The malt, the hops, the water all goes, and the worked the fermentation to produce a very well balanced beer that holds its carbonation and is quite nice to drink if I do say so. I am not a big fan of hoppy beers for the most part, but still appreciate them. I will certainly be appreciating the rest of this bottle.

A: a little cloudy dark orange amber with good off white head and ok lacing
S: smells kinda odd to me, kind of a little spicy and piney with some malt at the end
T: taste is what makes this beer, its very well balanced and super easy to drink. Got a nice spicy and hop taste to it with some sweet malt lingering and a great slightly bitter after taste
M: good mouthfeel but i suck at reviewing mouthfeel
O: for taste is probably in my top 10 wish it was easier to find as its a great price and easy to drink
