Poured from a 22oz bottle into a nonic pint.
A-Pours a light copper color with tinges of dark yellow at the edges. Produces a towering 3 finger head that hangs around for what seems like an eternity. I sat and admired for several minutes as it slow receded, leaving an exceptional lacing on the sides of the glass. Really impressive appearance.
S-Dank hop aromas, duh. Fresh cut grass, pine, hay, citrus fruits. Some grains and a hint of caramel are subtler.
T-Malt sweetness hits the tip of the tongue first. Flavors next follow the nose. Lots of pine and citrus from the hops with a bit of graininess coming through. Hop bitterness rounds it all out. Not the most bitter or hoppy IPA or APA (whatever it is), but it is extremely well balanced and a joy to drink.
M-Medium carbonation. A little sticky, but not too bad. It's above average for the style, though not outstanding.
D-Can't really notice the 6.7%. It goes down very nicely. I always look forward to these fresh hop ales every sixth months. They aren't overly complex or the hoppiest IPAs on the market (kudos to Sierra Neveda for sticking with whole cone hops), but they are just solid easy drinking ales. Always worth picking up a bomber or two when it first comes out.
