Press a murky, ruddy medium brown with a frothy cream head that lingers as a thin foam layer.

Banana, citrus, and clove dominate the aroma, with notes of toasted malt adding contrast. Bubblegum surfaces late.

Flavor reveals more citrus, with lemon tartness and orange rind underlying a wheat and lightly toasted malt base. Notes of caramel and toffee are overpowered by esters of bubblegum, banana, and clove. The finish is dry and fairly bitter.

Body is moderate, with carbonation a bit on the high side, and modest alcohol warmth.

I prefer a little less bitterness, but the esters are nice and complex. They definitely dominate. I think the bitterness in the finish almost makes the beer taste flat/stale. That's what kills it for me.

Poured from a growler into a stein. The beer is amber in color and very hazy (even unattractively so). Nevertheless, is well-carbonated and sports a nice 3 finger bloom that doesn't last quite as long as it should. The nose has some faint, but pleasant, bready aromas and some dark fruit. Smells like a traditional bock.

Medium body and a nice, rich malty flavor. I get a little of the wheat near the front and middle of the palate, a nice tart sensation, but mostly this beer is about the malt. There are lots of toffee and treacle flavors, some clove-like phenols, and a nice lemony wheat flavor to balance it out. No real hop character, just enough for spice.

I thought Sierra Nevada's take on this style might be an abomination. That is, that they might hop it to the gills. Fortunately, this is a very traditional interpretation. I like it a lot. It's sweet and malty and not too lemony. Bravo!

Pours a finger of head on a cloudy brown colored body.
The aroma is caramel and apple cider. Interesting but good.
The taste is a mild bitter start with a late malt sweetness. Great balance.
The texture is smooth with moderate carbonation.
Quite enjoyable.
