Beer pours a lovely hazy, bright yellow, reminiscent of blond hair; I haven't had a hefeweizen that was this color before and I quite like it. Head doesn't last particularly long, which is regular for the style, but it does leave a ring around the edge of the beer that doesn't go away, along with very minimal lacing that disappears from the surface of the beer and falls from the side of the glass quite quickly.
Smell is rife with acetylaldehyde, citrus, and a bit of malt and bread. Taste is pretty nice and refreshing, with crisp, tart notes, a hint of pine, and a lot of bread; the taste is a lot more refreshing in the front, as it has time to sweeten and the starchy flavors come out at the back. Some musty flavors from the yeast, as well as some alcohol also peek through, but nothing distracting. Mouthfeel is crisp at first with a little bit of carbonation sting and of moderate heaviness; this is not a slamming beer but a sipping beer for sure.
Chalk it up to me not being a huge fan of the style, but I wasn't overly impressed with this beer. It's good and gives a lot of other beers a run for their money, but I'm simply not overwhelmed by its quality. I would drink it again, but it's not on my essential list. For once a Sierra Nevada brew is only great instead of outstanding. Oh well.
To good health and good beer.
