Only the smell rated less-than-perfect with this beer (and even at that, nothing below the average). I'm continually impressed how Sierra Nevada continues to churn out top quality brews while some of the other larger craft breweries seem to fall short these days.
Appearance - straw colored and cloudy, as these hefeweizen typically are.
Smell - nothing distinctive about the smell.
Taste - I always have a difficulty discerning specific nodes, but there certainly is al ot going on. Citrusy - Yes. Hint of cloves - Yes (now that you mention it). Tastes like is comes from a legit Euro brewer - Yes.
Overall - Sierra seem to have hit the mark on the head with this German-Belgium inspired brew (I find anything labeled American-Wheat to be a bit dreadful).
No need to grab a Hoegaarden or Leffe at your local big market if you have this one at your fingertips.

12 oz. bottle poured into wheat beer glass
L: pale yellow, half misty ... can see through it some; fluffy 2/3-inch head of white foam, surprisingly no stick or lace, but it keeps a fully skin of white foam on top with a massive white collar; looks like a bubble factory in the column ... hundreds and hundreds of very tiny bubbles cascade up to the top
S: banana ... classic wheat beer, sweet and light and fruity; butterscotch
T: follows the nose 1-to-1 and the first few sips are so sweet you'd swear you're drinking a good tripel. the banana and fruit notes never sour
F: perfect ... it's very full yet very light and drinkable ... seriously, it doesn't get better than this
O: lives up to Sierra Nevada's sterling reputation ... I've yet to have a bad beer from them, and this falls right in line with the rest of their goodness. a great, easy, light hefeweizen that's perfect for this Texas summer but so tasty I imagine I'd love one of these in any climate at any time.
