I've been eagerly anticipating the arrival of Kellerweis and it finally arrived in North Texas. Poured into weizen glass.

A: Huge pillowy head that slowly dissipated but still left a good finger. Nice lacing and murky coloring. Exactly as I would want a hef to look.

S: Heavy wheat tones with some spiciness as well. More on the bready side of the hef equation. I don't really get the banana that most of the German hefs have. Nice but probably the least of the qualities..

T & M: The bready wheaty tones come out in the taste as well. No cloying sweetness, very crisp mouthfeel. Nicely bodied.

D: This is a very drinkable hef that I will be drinking quite often for the remainder of the summer.

Pours a beautiful hazy gold color topped with a thick lacy white head which recedes quickly. The brew gives off a biscuity malt aroma with soft hints of banana esters. The body is light and highly carbonated and is full of banana flavor with a background of biscuit malt and clove flavors. The finish carries the banana through the end and dances around the palate with the fizz from the carbonation. The finish is gentle but fades relatively quickly.

A: Pours a hazy yellow gold with about a finger of effervescent, fairly quickly dissipating but with good retention. Truly excellent.

S: Wheat, bananas, some mild fruits, and hops. A complicated, enticing smell.

T: Wheat, spice, a bit of candy gum like flavor, and a slight floral hop bite. Some of the best I've had in this category.

M: Bubbly, fresh, and just the right amount of body.

This is a delicious beer. Kellerweis pours a deep hazy yellow, with a bit of ephemeral head that leaves just a trace of lacing on the glass. The bouquet is very yeasty and full of clove and ripe banana as well as the earthiness from the wheat malt. The hefeweizen is very complex, with the fruit and spice flavors as well as a deep yeast must and a sweet taste that quickly dissipates in the dry, clean finish.

Great example of the style from the classic American brewery. You will not be disappointed by this beer.

Date: July 23, 2015... Glassware: Ayinger willibecker... Occasion: well pump replaced, and a tan replacement scheduled for tomorrow--time to drink... Appearance: golden yellow body is murky as a muddy river; ballooning, cratering off-white head leaves maze-like pattern of lacing .... Aroma: intense clove and banana, as expected; some fruity esters from the yeast make for an alluring, if not unique, hefeweizen ... Palate: lively, swirling, creamy body; bombards the tongue with activity, and suggestive of a surprising wheat complexity ... Taste: big, full bouquet of clove, banana, bubblegum, and secondary flavors of apple, pear, lemon grass and ginger--quite a stable of favors.... Overall: Sierra Nevada continues to impress with its portfolio of beers--they have top fermenters locked down, and now the wheat world is served notice that a refreshing, formidable, complex wheat is in the mix now....

Bottle: Poured a cloudy beige color weizen with a large foamy head with good retention and some lacing. Aroma of wheat malt with nice ester of banana and cloves. Taste is very refreshing with great notes of banana ester with subtle cloves and loads of wheat. Body is full with nice bottle conditioning and good carbonation. Very well done for the style with great refreshing factor - I think it is wonderful to keep this level of quality with the quantity of beer being brewed by this brewery.

12oz just picked up at the COOP today... poured into my smaller weizen glass.

3 finger meringue like head.. great retention and lace.. the brew is a hazy pale golden color.

nose smells like it made the trip from the motherland... very bready and ripe bananas... subtle cloves and just whaffs of pink bubblegum.

Flavor has alot more mashed bananas than the aroma.. a little more bubblegum this time that lingers more in the finish.. again very bready and just minor clovey notes. The body is on the thicker side and carbonation is light lending toward a creamy mouthfeel.

This is a pretty damn fine hefe... I really like it... the drinkability is pretty high... I had 2 way earlier in the evening that went down too fast... I wanted to save my final one to review, but this glass is clearing pretty quickly too... hats off to the crew at Sierra Nevada.

serving: 12 oz bottle

It pours a cloudy, blonde color. Nice, white head, two fingers high. Lots of carbonation with small bubbles of carbonation throughout the beer. Smell is very pleasant with banana and clove tones. Taste is smooth. First to hit is the banana and cloves. Lots of carbonation in the mouth, smooth feel. Drinkability is excellent. Overall, a very good American version of a German classic!

very excited to review this beer, looks wonderful

Appearance has a cloudy hazy golden color with a soft white pillowy head that leaves some sudsy lacing. The smell upfront is banana, clove, yeast, and bubblegum. The taste is the smell just more upfront. I get the citrus, yeast, wheat, and spice up front and clove and lots of banana in the aftertaste. The banana is very pronounced and taste like sweet ripe bananas, it is excellent. Mouthfeel is smooth and refreshing, medium body with some moderate carbonation. Drinkability is very high, a great American hefe. Definitely the best i've ever had. I'm looking forward to enjoying plenty more of this beer during the rest of this hot Louisiana summer.

The best of the style by an American brewery IMO. Nice banana and clove notes without overwhelming the brew with too much clove flavor like some other breweries. Also has a pleasant sweetness to it. Banana pudding??

Have been drinking this one regularly from SN since its release earlier this year. Poured from 12oz bottle into a tumbler.

Pours a hazy pale orange with a creamy tight bubbled head.

The aromas are plum, clove, pear and banana.

Flavor is somewhat yeasty, clove and balanced.

Mouthfeel is a little more full and toward the oily feel of wit but not over the top.

A truly outstanding Hefeweizen. You will be hard pressed to find a better mass produced example in the states, brewpubs on tap only and extremely fresh perhaps, but this great.

poured from familiar sierra bottle into pint glass. has that nice yeasty stuff on the bottom...good sign. i poured about 2/3 of the bottle before swirling the rest and finishing the pour. appearance is opaque and orange, with a nice thick white head. looks like a fine hefe. smells citrusy, with spicy, clove character. the yeast is present, and reassuring before the first sip. taste is muted banana, mingling with that classic spiciness you'll find in the best german hefeweizens. a bit spicy up front, then bready and mild in the middle before the spice returns with a nice bittersweetness on the finish. absolutely refreshing. mouthfeel is just right...decent carbonation, and a little thin-medium bodied. i liked this one alot, and its drinkability soars. you could drink these all day. good job sierra nevada.

Poured into Sierra Nevada Kelleweis glass. Wishing SN would release this beer in 12 or 24 packs; would love to have a butt load of this in the fridge at all times.

Glorious toasted yellow/orange glow with wheat cloudiness. Almost like orange juice. Nice white head that fades into a blanket after a couple minutes.

Smell right off the bat is tart and electric. Lemon, bubblegum and shock tarts. Smells refreshing.

Wheat taste is upfront, followed by sour/tartness, and leaving the mouth with a tart and bitter orange peel taste. Mirrors the smell.

Feels fizzy in the mouth. Soft, smooth, and light. Light bodied.

VERY drinkable. The smoothness of the wheat helps it go down easy. Gulp-able, but much better savored.

I've been very happy with Kellerweis, and have purchased many 6-packs. Weihenstephaner Hefeweis bier would be my first choice, but Kellerweis holds up well. Plus, newcomers to beer are usually pleased with it.

Poured out a hazy golden/light yellow color with a nice amount of head on it. Left quite a bit of lacing on the glass.

Aroma was wheat malts with a perfect balance of banana and cloves with an underlying aroma of bubblegum. It was very inviting.

Taste was soft and delicate but all the flavors stood out. Spicy banana begins at first with light cloves clashing at times with the banana. Some wheat grain can be tasted towards the later end. Pretty much the same as the nose.

Mouthfeel was light with the right amount of carbonation.

Hands down one of the best hefeweizen's made in the U.S. In all honestly, this beer can stand up to some of the German hefe's.

Appearance: The beer was poured into a DFH signature glass with a couple fingers of off-white head. The color was a rather hazy gold.

Smell: Starts off with a very honey aroma, but the cloves and banana really open up. The cloves really take over and its pretty much all just ester, yeasty goodness. I can smell a little bit of wheat aswell.

Taste: The taste is a really spicy sweet banana. You could definitely tell it was a wheat beer in the flavor. The finish is not very clean, in fact it is a rather yeast filled finish. There is a good bit of zest here and realistically it rounds out the taste perfectly. I am just very pleased with this beer.

Mouthfeel: The mouthfeel is on the thinner side, but the carbonation makes up for it.

Drinkability: At 4.8% alcohol and with the mouthfeel it has, this has become my go to session beer. It's cheap, it's delicious, and it reminds me of an actually good German hefe. What more could you ask for?

Been wanting to pick up some of this since it came out. Beautiful day, rooftop, Santa Monica...ahh I love summer.

A- Poured as directed, swirling the final third then pouring into glass. Looks like a beauty. Although it has that haziness to it, it is a bright apricot yellow with about a 2 1/2 inch craggy foam cap that clings to the glass as it shrinks down.

S- Subtle dusty hay yeastiness white pepper and coriander. I don't get the banana I was expecting.

T- I get a combo of subtle summer stone fruit wrapped up with some wheaty sweetness that has a touch of a bitter blip at the end before the dry finish. This is really nice.

M- Smooth, mild body with crisp carbonation.

D- Oooooh I could drink these all summer. I love this beer and summer. What a great combo... and the rooftop view in Santa Monica doesn't hurt either.

When I think Hefeweizen, I think in German! But even though this is not German made, it is certainly an excellent Hefeweizen. The floral and fruity aroma is top notch. The taste is just right. There is little that can refresh better than one of these on your front porch on a hot summers day. This is one of my favorite go to's.

Light butter yellow and cloudy; good white head

Soft, pleasant aroma of freshly baked bread, slight banana and spices

Taste & Mouthfeel
So smooth and balanced; nothing over-the-top banana or clive-wise, which I'm really appreciating; wonderful silky full texture; softly balanced flavors throughout though finishes nicely with just enough tartness; pleasing bready aftertaste

Sierra Nevada nails it again. I'm not a huge fan of this style, but this beer is really appealing to me. It's light and refreshing while managing to have a lot of depth of flavor. I think this could be a bigger gateway beer for newcomers than their pale ale.

A cloudy gold elixir this mighty fine brew,
with two inches of head my anticipation grew.

The foam releasing aromas so fine,
yeasty white pepper and clove so divine.

Funky phenols, lemon and banana peel,
a taste of this wheat beer I did thus steal.

A mild yeasty twang coupled with some light pepper spice,
crisp wheat that is thirst quenching and oh so nice.

Ample biscuit malts and bitterness only a kiss,
dry aftertaste and a hint of orange I could not miss.

A body in full with a mouth-coating texture like cream,
chewy and most enjoyable I do thus deem.

Overall a brew to drink back to back and enjoy all the same,
a positive review to solidify its fame.

Sampled from a 12oz bottle in a standard pint glass. Purchased at Lowes Foods in Apex, NC.

A - Straw colored and cloudy. A large, fluffy white head with good retention and decent lacing.

S - Lots of aroma dominated by bananas and cloves.

T - Lots of banana and spice in the start and a mild bitterness and a slight tartness in the finish. This is a very flavorful beer.

M - A creamy consistency with a nice moderate level of carbonation.

D - I've been looking forward to trying this beer and it didn't disappoint. It's got a lot of flavor, goes down easy and is very refreshing. And at 4.8%, it makes a nice summer session beer.

A: Pours a slightly hazed yellowish hue. Fluffy and creamy white head that yields strong retention throughout. Spotted lacing.

S: Aromas of pear, peach, and ginger. Even some citrus fruit undertones. Pleasant and balanced.

T: Honey soaked bananas with subtle lemon and spicy biscuit balance. Cloves and pinch of sweetness that adds to the refreshing quality.

M: Light and crisp.

D: Once again I'm impressed by the consistency, availability, quality, and price SN is putting out. Very drinkable and compliments dover sole fish tacos.

Pours a cloudy straw-like color, with a thick, pillowy, white colored head, that recedes to a creamy layer leaving lots of bubbly lace on the glass.

Cloves seem to predominate the aroma, although the banana esters are definitely present. Basically this smells mild and fruity. Quite refreshing, really.

I find the cloves to take center stage with the flavor of the beer as well, although the bananas aren't far behind. Aside from the typical flavors imparted by the yeast, I also detect a wheat sweetness, as well as a barely perceptible bitterness towards the end, certainly not enough to take away form the yeasty esters and wheat sweetness, but just enough to balance the overall flavor of the beer.

Pretty light bodied, but the carbonation is just right to not make it seem fizzy. I gotta be frank, this is one of the better hefes I've come across in quite a while, so crisp and refreshing. This totally lives up to the style and proves that Sierra Nevada knows more than just hops.

Pours a cloudy straw-yellow color with a big white head. Scent is somewhat spicy with hints of sweetness. A little bit of funk and lemon as well. I get some banana and maybe even a little bit of mint on top of it. Taste has a strong banana and clove backbone to it. It has a very delightful taste. The lemon zest sneaks through the strong banana a bit as well as the tasty spices. I also get some delicious notes of fresh bread. This beer is amazing for a hot summer day. The mouthfeel is near perfect. Not too light and a bit creamy. Very smooth. The drinkability is VERY HIGH. Great beer.
