Poured into a Sam Smith tulip pint glass.

A: Pours a beautifully cloudy golden yellow color that's surprisingly well blended in spite of its yeasty fog. The head isn't particularly impressive, it's a one head white color with mediocre retention/lacing.

S: There's a heavy noble aspect to this, which leads me to suspect it was well hopped with Saaz, Hallertau, and the like. Beneath the earthiness lies some banana and clove character.

T: I notice the clove notes first and foremost, but also a hit of noble hops on the finish. I also find a bit of citric character buried beneath the weizen notes, an excellent addition, in my opinion. The yeast is noticeable but it never gets in the way on the back end, always a good thing. Flavorful and easy to kill.

M: Very, very well carbonated without being overly so. Medium bodied with an amazingly crisp, subtly dry finish. The drinkability factor is incredible.

O: My favorite American-made hefe, and my favorite Sierra Nevada beer. Not quite on the same level as Weihenstephaner's (brilliant, brilliant) hefe, but easily on par with the Ayingers and Franziskaners of the world, perhaps even a touch better. Plus, it's cheap and very, VERY easy to find, which is criminal for a beer of this quality.

In fact, I'd even consider it a go-to beer for me - the highest compliment you can ask for.

12oz bottle into Franziskaner weizen glass.
A: Pours a cloudy burnt orange color with straw highlights (looks like murky iced-tea) beneath four finger of very dense and pillowy eggshell white head. The thick and long lasting head took forever to slowly fade into a thin, bubbly, film that left patches of sticky lacing down the glass.
S: I get huge notes of clove and ripe banana, light notes of hay, with spicy yeast and just a hint of bitter hops and sweet citrus juice in the background.
T: Follows the nose with a great mixture of wheat, clove, banana, lemony citrus, and chalky yeast. A ever so slight hop bitterness bring up the rear, and the aftertaste is almost sugary sweet.
M: Full fluffy body, soft fuzzy carbonation, and a sweet and textured mouthfeel.
O: On the sweet side but definitely one of the better/best American examples. Another reliable and a delicious beer from arguably the best brewery in the country!

12 Oz bottle poured into a Hefeweizen glass. Swirled the last bit to get the settled yeast at the bottom.

Nice natural and cloudy color, not too orange. About a 2-finger head that settles rather quickly. Looks like a fresh summer beer, not too heavy.

Fruity yeast notes, not very strong with a hint of citrus.

Very balanced, light taste. There is definitely yeast flavor, but not too much, just the right amount. The fruity, citrus flavors come through, but could be more pronounced.

Light feel on the palate, very well carbonated, almost too bubbly.

This Hefeweizen looks and tastes exactly like the kind of beer you’d like to have on a warm summer day. Perfectly balanced, not too heavy with a nice and fruity taste. There are Hefeweizen with more character, but this one is a crowd pleaser.
