Poured into a tulip glass. Light yellow color in the pour. Once settled in the glass it is opaque golden colored with a finger of white head that quickly broke down to a thin covering.
Smells great. Lots of banana, some nectarine and orange.
Nice taste. Starts like a normal Hefe with some banana. Then an undercurrent of bitter takes over with a sparkling water ending.
Crisp with moderate carbonation.
Hefe is not my favorite style. I liked this one because it was not overly fruity. It had just a touch of banana at the beginning and then mixed it up with a more interesting flavor sequence than a normal hefe.

Poured into a regular pint glass.

A - Poured cloudy pale yellow color with big head that slowly dissipated leaving significant lacing around the glass.

S - Lots of yeast with some banana, cloves and spices.

T - Bready yeast and banana with some earthy taste of straw, cloves and citrus.

M - Medium bodied with high carbonation.

O - Very good hefe and I highly recommend it especially, because it is widely available.

A - Very pale straw colour clouded by plentiful yeast sediment. A small, head fades to a ring quickly leaving minimal lacing.

S - Yeast, dried banana chips and ...rubber?

T - Banana, bread, clove, pear, lemon juice.

M - Moderate body, quite high in carbonation.

O - An OK hefe. I am not sure how fresh mine was, having been imported to Australia but judging on this bottle I could not say it is anywhere near the realm of top shelf hefes like the Weihenstephaner.

A- Out of the bottle a golden straw color- cloudier than a thunderstorm with a finger of head that doesn't last longer than one.

S- Yeast, white wine musk, corn, honey, flowers, sulfer.

T- Taste is light and slightly bready. I can find some banana if I look for it, especially in the aftertaste, but it's not strong. Stronger is the taste of unbaked bread, and flour.

M- Light, I would take some more carbonation, but this is fine.

O- A fine beer. Not the most flavorful thing I've dranken but tasty still.

Mouthfeel- Medium bodied and crisp. Moderate amount of carbonation.

Overall- Very enjoyable. I will definitely choose this one again.

Reviewing from notes. 12oz bottle poured into a weizen glass.

A-Pours a cloudy/translucent gold with a very thick, long lasting white head.

S-Yeasty, rich malt aroma with some hints of banana.

T-No hop taste detected. Definitely balanced toward malts throughout. Nice yeasty character that is almost bready.

M-Medium body, smooth finish, no CO2 bite.

O-Wonderful. Easily one of my favorites. Good beer to introduce mainstream, uneducated beer drinkers to.

Mouthfeel - Great drinkable texture.

Consumed on September 9th, 2011 at The Four Points Sheraton Sierra Nevada event.

Beer is a cloudy yellow somewhere between light and medium in hue. A slight white head crowns the affair.

Aroma is bananas with a mild wheat undercurrent.

The flavor is light, fresh banana wheat bread. Bitterness is mild but apparent. No cloves or other spices to note. Somewhat bland.

Mouthfeel is slightly thick and even a little chewy.

Not a great hefe, but a serviceable one.

This is one of the better Hefes I've tried - this variety is not a favourite of mine as it often has an overly acidic citrus tang but the SN has a sweeter, mellower taste - like the label says banana and clove.

Great example and very drinkable. So far one of my fav brewers.

Pours a bright yellow with a thin lacing of head. Smells of bananas and faint spices with a little wheat and yeast notes as well. Taste is much like the nose; banana and clove up front with wheat and yeast in the finish. Mouthfeel is light and crisp with a good deal of carbonation.

I generally find hefeweizens to be unimpressive. This is one I will drink.

On tap at Schooners Patio Grille in Santa Clarita, CA.

Pours a hazy light honey brown color with a 1 inch foamy white head that fades to a thin film. Random spots of lace dot the glass on the drink down. Smell is of wheat, mild spices, and yeast aromas. Taste is of wheat, spices, yeast, and a banana bubblegum flavor in the aftertaste. This beer has a good level of carbonation with crisp yet smooth mouthfeel. Overall, this is a very good American made hefeweizen from Sierra Nevada. I tried this in the bottle before and I think I prefer this one on tap.

From tasting notes on 8-26-11

Appearance: Tall foamy white head that settles quickly leaving quite a bit of lacing behind. Cloudy, pale golden color.

Smell: Enticing--yeast, wheat whiffs, and some spices.

Taste: Nice bready taste, along with wheat and a hint of hops in the dry, crisp finish.

Mouthfeel: Light-bodied, medium carbonation, and refreshing.

Overall: Tasty and a very mellow and drinkable Heffeweizen.

Best before 12/5/12

a) Hazy pale orange. Big white head, somewhat coarsely bubbled.

s) Wit-like spiciness, almost coriander seed-like. Banana & bubblegum, fleshy smallgoods. Warms to a BBQ steak aroma, and some clove.

t) Stronger clove notes on the palate than nose. Rich wheat flavour; well attenuated, so quite dry.

n) Fairly light for style, I think; not as creamy as some German examples. Perhaps a bit hollow.

d) Very easy to drink; suitable for warm days and a thirst.

Rich and full of banana notes this is a Hefe that moves far away from the American wheat stylings of Widmer et al. I love the way Sierra takes this style to the max with lots of big flavours but a sense of balance in the end. Still a Summer beer style for me but the complexity of this keep me wanting to drink it through the Fall.

two-thirds pour, looks hazy but still slightly transparent. Last pour, swirled (as per instructions), dense haziness, absolutely opaque, and a strong sunset yellow. Thick off-white head that settles into a nice cap with a hint of lacing.

nose is full of banana and coriander, though "full" may be an overstatement as the aroma is not particularly strong.

The way I would put the taste... peaceful banana. You get all the spice up front, but it gently slides into a soft banana flavor that you can almost feel. The yeast is mostly in the nose and front of the flavor.

Feels great, a full palate with a smooth banana-like texture.

Good beer. Sierra Nevada always pulls it off well. I'm really enjoying this in mid-September as I'm transitioning from summer ales to festbiers.

Poured from a 12oz btl into a nucleated hefeweizen glass.
cloudy hay coloration with a nice white cap that remains. Some light lacing.
The nose has notes of ripe banana and light esters.
Overripe banana flavors with some coriander and upper palate crispness.

--Overall a great suprise from Sierra. Well crafted with a solid nose and yeast characteristics on the palate. Certainly a repeat buy.

Drank straight from the bottle with a freshness date.

Appearance: Beautiful straw-like and hazy color.

Smell: Not too strong of a smell, but that's probably because this is an old bottle I found in the back of my fridge from a get together from a couple of months ago. Has a sort of bready smell to it.

Taste: Biscuits and banana bread all the way. A tad of spice. Just the right balance you want to see in a hefeweizen.

Mouthfeel: Adequate carbonation with a very cool and refreshing mouthfeel. Perfect for a hot early September day!

Overall: Surprisingly one of the best hefeweizens I've ever tried. Thumbs up to Sierra Nevada for this one! Highly recommended for any hefeweizen fan.

A-Cloudy yellow, one finger fluffy head

S-Wheat, yeast, banana and clove

T-Lots of banana and cloves, a good bit of wheat as well.

M-Light carbonated, everything a Hefe should be.

O-SN can do no wrong with their regulars and this is just another example of that.

Lovely lemony amber color in the tulip glass with cloudy appearance. Not a traditional Hefeweizen but it's elegant yet flavorful. Crisp with a nice acidic touch, yet mellow with a restrained clove and banana taste. Excellent creamy carbonation, much like a good German beer such as an actual Kellerbier. Nice touch of hops gives a good beery finish.

One of my favorite American wheat beers, however this fits into the styles. Lighter body than many Hefeweizens, but real flavor unlike the typically anemic American Pale Wheat Ale style.

Appearance: very light in color, a more copper toned than most heffeweizen's.

Aroma: cloves and bananas are prominent, but well balanced and citrusy.

Palate: again, more cloves in the taste than anything else but well balanced nonetheless. A stronger taste than most heffe's but not pungent

Poured 45 degrees into a shaker pint.

Pours a hazy light gold with a light orange core. Sudsy lingering 2.5 finger head. Beautiful.

Smells of a malty sweetness and vanilla? Not exceptionally projected.

Taste consists of bananas, coriander, and a touch of nutmeg or allspice. Not an exceptional finish, but ends cleanly.

Mouthfeel is vivacious and lively. Beautifully balanced structure and effervescence.

Overall, a surprisingly impressive complexity and balance. Beautifully melded, something to come home to at the end of the day. Pair with salads, sandwiches, or pizza.

Poured from 12 oz. bottle into a Sam Adams perfect pint glass.

Appearance: A very cloudy and hazy golden orange with lots of rising bubbles. Solid three finger white head with good retention and sticky lacing. Looks a lot like a glass of orange juice.

Smell: Lots of yeast and wheat with banana and cloves. Also some orange, pale malts, and lemon peel. Light hints of citrus hops and pepper lingering around.

Taste: Starts out with the classic Hefeweizen flavors of wheat, bananas, clove, and yeast. Also some hints of lemon, orange, and bready pale malts adding to the sweetness. Finishes with a mild hint of citrus hops.

Mouthfeel: Medium bodied with a medium to high level of carbonation. Very crisp and smooth.

Overall: A very good American take on a Hefeweizen. Has pretty much everything you would expect for the style.

Pours a nice clear golden yellow, with a frothy white head that fades a bit. The smell is huge, very distinct yeast, with clove and banana, also some doughy bread going on as well. The flavor is complex but not overpowering, a lot of different flavors packed in here. The taste starts out with the clove, banana and yeast flavor and moves to a crisp subtle malt, and ends with the yeast and bread notes. The mouthfeel is light, crisp and smooth, great balance in flavor and carbonation. Overall this beer is great, the flavors are done extremely well, and the beer is so good you want to keep coming back to this one.

12 oz. bottle from a six pack purchased at a bottle shop, 07/2011. Well stored since purchase. The date code would seem to indicate that this was bottled late May, 2011.

Poured into a Franziskaner Weissbier Glass.

Pours a nice one finger head which hangs for a bit then subsides into a 1/8” cap. Lots of carbonation though, very lively, an easy one swirl revival for the head.

Beautiful golden wheat color, cloudy with all the yeast sediment. Streams of carbonation constantly come from the bottom of the glass.

The smell starts with a huge blast of distinct yeast, hard crusty bread, golden malt, and yes lemon peel. Just a faint hint of hops, then more yeasty bread. Extremely enjoyable, complex, and lasts throughout the pour.

The first sip hits you with a very crisp, citrusy, acidity that adds great balance to this beer, bread and yeast flavors, orange with a hint of lemon, great carbonation with fine bubbles that reminds one of good champagne. Delicious and incredibly refreshing, you could just drink pints forever!

Fairly long finish, with some nice hops showing, golden malt, and again delicious yeast/bread.

An amazingly delicious American Wheat Beer. Tastes like what I remember having in Germany. Great mouth feel from the carbonation which lasts throughout the pour. The delicious combination of citrus/malt/yeast invites you to drink until it’s gone……I think I will have another!

On Tap

Urge Gastropub
San Diego, CA

Cloudy golden yellow with a pillowy, persistent white head. Consistent and regular lacing down the glass.

The aroma is classic hefe: banana and yeast, though this American version does have a touch of citrus/pine hop presence as well.

Banana and citrus flavors dominate, along with mild tangy yeast, and some faint bubble gum. Very nice American interpretation of this style.

Crisp, medium bodied. Sierra Nevada never feels here, no matter the beer.

A great American version of a hefeweizen.
